Finally, my website. REDESIGNED MORE COMMENTS PLEASE

Nice fast loading images for the slideshow, on clicking the link Firefox warns me that its prevented from loading because it wants to redirect me to another page which is
Code:
http://www.carlspringphotography.co.uk/carlspringphotography.co.uk/Home.html
seems you have your html files etc in a folder called carlspringphotography.co.uk/Home.html.
Any particular reason you don't follow the norm and just call the home.html index.html and place the files in the root folder for example it maybe public_html, this would save the redirect problem which some folk might not allow a redirect. Your email link on the contact page, maybe think about obfuscating your emaill address in the contact.html, it might help keep some of the spambots from harvesting your email from the page and filling your box with viagra offers etc

I'l be honest I only understood a third of that. Can you give me a bit more of a step by step guide on how to do that please. Would be much appreciated!

At present I have a folder caller carlspringphotography.co.uk and index and assets. That is what is loaded up to the server. Do I need to change the name of the folder to home, or is it in the html coding?

Usually you would have a folder named Public_html (or similar) on your server where you would store most your files and folders for the website. Your home.html page would be called index.html. This would show up as
Code:
http://www.carlspringphotography.co.uk
rather than
Code:
http://www.carlspringphotography.co.uk/carlspringphotography.co.uk/Home.html
in the url address bar. Also it won't appear as though the link you gave in your first post is redirecting to elsewhere.

Having said that changing folders now may affect all the other links on the site ie; your images.

Obfuscating...google it theres loads of info on it, generate one ---> Here

On the first page where it say Click image to Enter, you need to put a little space between the bottom of the image and the top of the words.

The heading's that go across the top of the page, Sport, People, Animal, Advertising, personally I don't like the heading of the page I am on going missing, I would rather it faded or changed to a another colour to indicate the page I am on.

Nice site, and fast, viewed with Firefox 3.06

Tim

Front page: as Xendistar said, need 'click to enter' to be separate from the picture.

I find myself wanting to click on 'Carl Spring Photography', hoping that it would take me to the home page, but there's no homepage.

When you click on one of the links (sport, portrait, animals etc) I don't like how it disappears. It should just stay there.
- linking to this, there is no way of knowing what page you're on (i mean, apart from the fact that it's pretty blatantly obvious)

I would prefer thumbnails on the pages, but only because that's the norm. I don't mind the slideshow. It works well, looks professional, and is very quick to load.

Nothing on the Advertising/Commercial page.

Wouldn't recommend putting your mobile number on the web

Looks good mate, I'd be chuffed with it.
Seriously recommend having a homepage though. I find myself feeling lost and it feels awkward

Cheers for the responses

Will have to have another look at it. Few probs when viewing on IE the click to enter being one, and the logo has also gone a bit weird also so working on that. Might even just put a logo as splash page.

Advertising/commercial page, not much worth putting up at the min, basically I need to get shooting some more, kind of thought better to have something there rather than nothing for the time being. Do you think it might be worth taking down for the min?

Good point about the number, might sort that out too. As for the text of the page disappearing, think for the time being going to stick with it. Wanted it to be as minimal as possible, and that fits my design to me.

Finally home page. I again just wanted the pics to do the talking, but might be something to look at.

I don't have a very big monitor and a lot of the pictures went off the page. Do they need to be so big or is that within the slideshow program? It did load quickly though.

Yeah going to have a play with it. Cpl of other people have commented about the navigation bar. Going to give it a shot when I get some more time, might make it go v light grey instead, so almost disappears rather than fully.

Page is set for 800 wide by 600 high, so pretty average sizing. Not too sure why they went off te page. The comments are truely apprecited folks, and keep em coming. Least it's looking like everything is loading quick which is a bonus!

Massively, super quick loading, but then I have a pretty fast connection :p

I checked it out on my second, smaller monitor and the pictures barely went off the page (required a slight scroll down), but that was only a minor issue.

Yeah my other half noticed that this morning as well Ant. It's weird you spend so much time trying to get it perfect, and then when it's live you see all the mistakes, lol. Will have to get some work in next week on it.

Once again cheers for this feedback. One last question, apart from the Advertising stuff, which I know I need to sort out and shoot, do the rest of the images fit the theme, and are there any obvious clunkers?

Good stuff - clean, neat, focussed.

I love the skater pics - mind - as an ex-skater I am a skate whore for it - but they're damnably fine shots.

Right. Have had a bit of a change around since comments on here and others I have received. Change of front page, added a blog and a cpl of small changes to hopefully make it work better with all browsers. Hopefully it addresses the comments made so far. So again what do you all think, better? worse, the same? As before all comments good and bad are appreciated!

I like the layout.

On the people slideshow is the first picture Kid Rock and a girl?

defiantly an improvement over the first design, only thing I noticed straight away was on the advertising/commercial page you have a grey background and the content with a white background, its not following suit with the rest of the site.

Also why have a set width content area and then reduce the blog content area again, you are already reducing screen size with the actually site design, i would keep the blog part at 100% of the content area,

Yeah I set a slightly different colour by mistake, cheers for that, didn't notice til you said!

That was just a mistake, but again fixed now. Cheers for that! Really appreciated. Always the details you miss!

now that you've introduced a blog page, i'd like to see that as a home page - the first thing that opens upon clicking enter :)

Am going to stick to my guns on this for the time being. Just a case of want the work to be the first thing people see.

Cheers for the comments and keep em coming!

Just noticed another glicth, when on the website to get back to the home page, you click the logo, but that takes you back to the splash page, which is a big no no in the web industry

Nice and quick loading with a simple layout. I'd get rid of the splash page personally as I see no need to force the viewer to have to click before they can view the site. You already know they wnat to look at the site so giving one extra step in initial navigation never makes sense to me - even more so when its a splash page with no images to tempt the viewer in.

I'd just have the address go straight to your homepage :)

I hve been uhmming and arrring (is that how you spell it?) over this. When you say that it does make sense, do you think if i did the logo would have a strong enough presence, or maybe make it slightly bigger in the header? Anyone else either pro or anti the splash page?

Also on an unrelated note, my business card design is black at present, do you think with the site being white, it would make sense to go white with the business card. Again as with the splash page, one of those things I am having trouble making my mind up over. As always thanks in advance!
