A different hood for my 17-40L

20d-side.jpg

The supplied hood EW83-E was next to useless on the lens when it's mounted on the 20d, so after a bit of mooching round I got hold of the EW83-G :thumb:

The pettles are much longer than the original hood and today I took it out in the snow, with the sun low in the sky I noticed a distinct lack of flare :D

If you have the 17-40L and a cropped sensor body, I would strongly recommend this hood. And you can even reverse it on the lens when you put the lens back in the bag. Thats something that was almost impossible to do with the original hood, unless you wanted to leave everything else on the floor.

Mine came to me via Matty as I don't have an ebay account, took less than a week to get here from HK

Does that not impinge on the view though at the wider angles, I always believed that was why the original hood is soo modest?

Congratulations though, if it works whos complaining:thumb:

I've had no vignetting at wide open, if the sensor was full sized you probably would get some with this though.

Kris, with the hood in place, I can get my fingers in to remove the lens cap and spin my circ pol. Obviously not as easily as on the standard hood but not something thats going to cause an issue.

Or to put that another way, it's a lot easier to spin the circpol on this set up than it is on my 75-300 with it's hood on :D

That hood is from Canon EF 28-300 f3.5-5.6 L IS USM lens

The E seems to get mentioned a bit too if you mooch around the net searching on the subject. But my Ebay using butler couldn't source the E :whistle2:

That looks a lot more effective that the standard hood but why are these hoods so expensive :hissyfit:

..or maybe i could, i just wanted to spend less....

looks good on the lens though, top banana!

Aye, i've never understood why such small items can command the high prices, thats why it was my first item from HK, a uk highstreet shop wanted £49.00 for it :hand:

looking around the differences in pricing was staggering, for the same item too...glad your bargain worked out ok for you!

After market items are usually more expensive.
Lens hoods are designed, optimised and tested for each lens. They also have an anti-reflective felt lining to reduce glare.
