This is something I’ve been contemplating for a few years, I’m fed up with using 2 systems, Canon and Olympus..so after buying an EM1 mk3 I’ve decided to switch permanently, which leaves me with Canon stuff to sell, and olympus stuff to buy..where shall I sell it? I’ve always sold on eBay but am worried it’s become scam heaven, should I just cut my losses and sell to LCE or Wex or someone similar? I need flashes, triggers etc for my olympus, so probably part exchange? Sell private? Where? So many problems lol

If you have a decent sized LCE within easy reach, I would look into a part exchange deal against second hand Oly stuff. (Other dealers exist and the advice holds for them as well!)

Ebay is really bad now, with their fees having gone up, wanting you to register bank account with them to be able to sell, their tendency to put the buyer ahead of seller regardless of scam behaviour. MPB/LCE/Wex are all good to deal with and fair. I've used MPB quite happily for selling, and Wex for p/x also very happily.

I agree - the Evil Bay is to be avoided. I'll buy from there if I have to, but I'd never sell - far too many scammers and as Lindsay says, they always take the side of the scammer buyer.

This is a great place to buy and sell - I've done it many times. Obviously, dealing with someone with a low post count is potentially a little riskier, but by swapping full contact details as per the rules IME it works well, :) (y)

Before dealing with MPB, I would suggest a search on here first - there are many dissatisfied customer posts and although they always seem to come good in the end they may cause you grief.

I was selling camera stuff on ebay until covid struck - only 1 near miss in 4-5 years. I only ever sold BIN/BO at a slightly higher than market price to give me a bit of wriggle room to block potential buyers if I was at all suspicious ( did that half a dozen times ) also ebay sent me regular £1 total selling fees offers which I used.

Anyway - I can understand your reservations about risk especially if you just need to sell a few items now - and take the hit on sellers’ fees.

Yep Ffordes for commsion sales and LCE for p/ex or MPB. Worth getting quotes - sometimes you can do a better deal than ebay anyhow.

I have bought/ sold quite a bit of stuff from UK dealers ( LCE, MPB, Ffordes, Wex, Park, Bristol, Camera Jungle and a few others ) and I have to say never had any probs that they didn’t resolve quickly. LCE branch nearby is great - like Richer sounds.

( btw Adorama in the states - as well as the customs/vat hassle aweful - not dishonest but slower to resolve stuff than a snail on diazepam )

Great idea that em1.3 - always wanted an em1.2 - keep thinking of selling stuff myself to fund one. Great fan of m43 - have had an em5.1 forever it seems and good, cheap pan/oly lenses.
