Yes
after a long struggle in my pedantic belief in the bridge technology sensors being quite good and sufficient to my needs....they still are for the 6x4 print etc..i got an olympus e420 10Mp 4/3 sensor body and 17-45 zoom lens:love:

the results are a bit staggering to me and have me straining at the leash to do some big prints or posters...

apologies to all dslr users here whom i have suggested the opening comments were valid to them..i can see how frail my comments must have appeared:bonk:

just need to get a bigger card now and a wider more open lens:thumbs:

and i have learned the difference between a crow and a rook...the crow doesnt know much and squawks...the rook can castle with a king:lol:

LOL. Better late than never - but you've discovered a simple truth:- When it comes to negatives or sensors, they're like boxers - a good big 'un always beats a good little 'un.

Were this not so we'd all be forsaking our DSLRs and bags of gear for something that slips in a pocket. ;)

Happy new camera, and that's a very nice shot indeed for starters.

There will be no holding you back now....go for it

you will aso need a much bigger hard drive on the PC too, as well as a tripod, camera bag, blower, filters, more filters, flashguns, jees, were did all this stuff come from:lol:

Have fun Geof, looking forward to your pics:thumbs:

Paul

thanks guys
i have been through the mega billingham phase on 35mm slrs/med format and lenses, kitchen sinks, and lifebelts
hope this time i can get one lens to satisfy...
the existing one is 17.5 f3.3 to 45 f 5.6

methinks i may need a 14- something around f2.8 starting...and macro

cant wait till my sacro iliac begins to complain again...i am well stocked up with zapain on repeat prescription...:(

Hoorah!

Same path as you Geoffrey it seems , was happy to use a Canon powershot S3
Till I got a picblown up...................you are now on the road to ruin " muwhahah little finger in mouth.:D"

Believe it or not, Aldi's on line service gets very good reviews, and great prices.

I was going to give them a go, but never got round to it. Just what I've heard.

Word of warning about cropping. Dunno if this is a comment about Aldi or any on-line processor, but someone recently tried them and their pictures had been cropped to awkward sizes/shapes and the machinery got it a bit wrong and chopped them about a bit. Prints were good quality but heads and feet a bit trimmed

They should leave white space if the crop doesn't fit the apsect ratio of the print size exactly, but I guess that's an ideal world. There must be a way around this in the presentation of the files

I think a couple of things could have happened there, the user might have not locked the aspect ratio when cropping and performed a free crop thus throwing the ratio out, or when uploading they chose 'classic' format when they should have chosen 'original' or vice versa.

Congrats on your new babs Geoffrey.:clap:

thanks old chap

regarding cropping...most cameras seem to do 4x3 and not 6x4

i leave a bit top and bottom in my composition...landscape...and crop in ps to 6x4 300dpi....for postcards of course

when the 8x6 comes into force i am glad of the 4x3 ratio then...

ps...i have A4 print paper which i cut to suit the final print requirements...usually an existing photoframe size
now
we have A4 A5 A6?
which roughly is 11.7 8.28...then 8.28 5.85...then 5.85 4.14..nearly 6x4
is this a coincidence that the two smaller ones dont fit 8x6 and 6x4
why not a 12x8 sheet for cutting down for home printers to have all sizes available in one pack
