After threatening for the last 6 months to replace my slow running PC I finally took the plunge and did so. What a difference. Why did I wait so long.

Photoshop and Lightroom now will actually run together and open in under 5 secs. Exporting 150MB files out of lightroom is virtually instantaneous. And copying 100 GB of raw images via USB 3 took 15 mins.

Now I need to take some decent pics!!

Specs are.

Intel Core i7 3770K overclocked to 4.6GHz
Noctua NH-D14 Ultimate Performance Quiet CPU Cooler
Asus P8Z77-V Motherboard
16GB Corsair PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3
GeForce GTX 650
120GB Samsung 840 Series SSD Drive
2 x 1000GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disks in RAID 1
LG Blu-ray Rewriter Drive (Supports burning to BD, DVD, CD)
Corsair CX 750W 80 Plus Bronze certified PSU.
17 in 1 built in USB 3 card reader.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Instead of having the 2x 1TB drives in RAID1... just backup one to the other with Ghost or Acronis. RAID is not back up, it's redundancy. The RAID array can still be hosed by a controller error (fairly likely at some point as you're probably using software RAID), and it can still be accidentally deleted.

Unless you back up the RAID1 array to a third 1TB space.... then ignore me... but if not.. running RAID1 is not back up... it's MUCH safer to back up one 1TB drive to the other.

Hi David.

I'm not relying on the Raid as my back up. I have 2 more external drives with a copy on also.

I've been very fortunate never to have a hard drive fail. But know a few mates that it has happened to so have always had two external copies.

I'm no whizz on a PC so I'm grateful for any advice.
