I'm not a big fan of football, but this story really annoys me!

Shame on Old Catton parish council  and especially Ms Sarah Vincent, "The authority did not believe the football club lends itself to the family environment"

It will be interesting to see what secret plans have been laid for the 'recreation ground' in the future?

I'm not a big fan of football,
Me either, but I would suspect there is more to that, than they are saying. Although not acceptable to many, swearing in public is rife.
They could have had a swear box at each match, and donate the proceeds to charity.

I'm no prude but the language (mainly from the parents [both sexes!]) I've heard when passing junior games (at volume) comes close to making me blush.

Its pathetic. Our PC had couple of members who moaned about the football - and balls going into others gardens. Well seeing as the rec has been there for 40+ years, most people would have moved there knowing its by a Dottie pitch (someone actually moaned about the church bells on a Sunday morning too)!

These people are just football haters - one of them (our PC) used to moan that Sat and Sun Ams was just football use on the rec and we should have other stuff there too. Our rec is actually too small for the volume of teams but she would rather kids can't play football so that we can make a token offer to other sports (none of which have teams in the village).

Old Catton is no village. It has a population of more than 6,000 and is embedded in Norwich.

The language and violent behaviour from fans and players in non league football can be shocking, physical attacks on officials and players, I only lasted a season before concentrating on cycling, cricket, tennis, badminton and running, far more enjoyable and friendly sports.

They would have had a coronary over Hackney Marshes on a Sunday morning in the 70's, crazy times, but great fun.
One changing room, some a fair step out from the Eastway and nearly into the shunting yard
Knew you were in for an easy game when the opponents brought their own nets.
Some even had a manager and tracksuits with the team name on, all the gear no idea.

Soon learnt if you were kicking into the goal with the polluted outfall behind that you just tapped it in in.
No one wanted to clamber down the muddy bank and go for a wade in the steaming smelly water to retrieve the ball.

Wanstead Flats was much nicer, handy for a few pints in the Holly Tree afterwards too.

Best games of all were on the wire fenced cinder pitch in Oliver Road behind the Orient ground.
Many evenings we had an impromptu match there with who knows how many a side, even had floodlights.

It does seem to be just about endemic amongst both women and men. I feel saddened to hear people who don't seem to be able to say a sentence without swearing no matter where they are or who they're with and the presence of children means nothing so sadly they'll probably grow up the same. Keeping the volume down would be a start but sadly those who struggle to say a sentence without swearing often have megaphone voices.

Like most articles in the press, it is combination of poor journalism and choosing their own narrative.
