Yes
I posted a while back about my sister and her family being burgled. Just had a call to say my brother and his family have also been burgled.

Sweary filter will not let me say what I would like to say.

Hope it was not all the xmas pressies that got knicked??

Sorry to hear this, I think it must be the worst time of year to be burgled(not that there is EVER a good time)

Scum, no other words for them. Come the revoloution.

Thanks all - strangely my brother seemed to think they had left the christmas presents alone (although he hadn't had a chance to check properly when I spoke to him). We think they were disturbed as the laptops are both still there as well. It seems to mainly be the jewellery / watches and they have made an almighty mess of the place (including my neice Rose's room - she is not yet one year old so what they thought they'd find in there I don't know).

The real b****r is that my late grandmother's jewellery was split half and half between my brother and sisters houses. Now they have both been burgled it has all gone. It would have been better if they had just taken the stuff like laptops rather than the personal things... and the thought of them rifling through Rose's toys and clothes makes me feel sick frankly.

Believe me I feel for you right now, but I have only had a window on my car put through but its going to cost hundreds to put it back in as the whole roof has to be replaced...........the scum that do this sort of thing dont deserve the air they breathe, they are the lowest of the low and only deserve to be put to sleep inhumanely.

if this sounds un-sympethetic then i really dont mean it to, but from what you have said, that sounds like a family member has been involved in some way. Either directly or indirectly.

Could be down to sheer bad luck that both houses with the jewelry in were hit mind, but first instinct is someone knew what items were at what house and when to target these houses.

Unlikely given that the cretin who burgled my sister left a dirty great fingerprint on the back door and is now residing at her majesty's pleasure because of it.

I also resent the implication of your post  :shake:

So sorry to hear that Fi.
Give my best wishes to your brother and his family.

I don't know what's wrong with some people :shake: . . . complete and utter scum!
It's not so much the value of what they've stolen - insurance will cover that. It's like you say, the sentimental value and the feeling of your personal space being violated.

I just hope they catch the (insert your own expletive here) that did it and manage to recover some of the items.

it might be worth letting local pawn shops and jewelry shops know incase they get someone in trying to sell them, also put an add in the paper with breif discriptions of your grandmothers jewelry, at least if anyone shows up with them they can notify yourselves or the police.

I feel for the OP. I bought one of those safes for about £50 to put doucuments and passport etc in, but after hearing about a break in and seeing the state of the person who owned the house I decided to keep the sentimental stuff in there as well.... my most treasured posession??.... the name band the hospital put round my daughters wrist when she was first born..... irreplaceable.

I really feel for your family and must say how sad I feel about some of the stuff that goes on today.

But be happy that you still have a family around you at this precious time.

Also on a note of special items like jewels to everybody who reads this take photos of them and if the horrible ######## ever get into your house you can straight away get to the pawn shops etc with copies of what to look out for.

Sympathies again to the families involved and to the scum who did it and carry on doing it i hope you rot in ####

The c bomb springs to mind.

Dirty thieving scum.

And to think it's likely we pay taxes to house these crustaceans and their kids who will no doubt grow up to follow in their footsteps.

Sorry to hear about it mate, must be dreadful. :(

Thanks again everyone - we have alerted the local pawn shops etc so fingers crossed but it didn't do us much good when my sister was burgled.

On the subject of taking photo's of stuff - it is a good point because you can also use them to back up your insurance claim but I must tell you about the least subtle fraudulant claim I have ever seen. I work in insurance and was once passed a file with a picture of a family wearing the most ridiculous amount of gold jewellery. They were sat on the sofa adorned with at least 5 necklaces & 6 bracelets each... and as many earings as their ears could accomodate. They had clearly rounded up all of their relatives jewellery and staged the photo. Had me laughing for days that did.

Probably best to just take photo's of the individual items...

Sorry to hear this Daysleeper. I can't begin to imagine how it feels to be burgled and I sincerely hope I never do. I hope that those responsible get caught sooner rather than later.

Do you have any crime investigation experience? I have quite a lot, I get paid fairly well for being cynical and suspicious, and I think you're drawing false and, possibly, offensive inferences from a couple of posts on a forum.

To the OP: I can understand how you, and your family, must be feeling. I interviewed a lot of women in jewellery stores (South Africa) in the aftermath of violent armed robberies. Many of them had been through more than one incident - the trauma tends to be cumulative - and they only broke down when they told me about losing their engagement/wedding rings.

Druggy scum needing to feed their habit..... i mean!!!! what the hell did they mess up the kiddies room for .

I remember a couple of years back ,my brother was visiting my folks ,his girlfriend was on her own when she heard a noise coming from the kitchen, went to see what it was ,and caught a guy half in the kitchen window ,luckily Jamie their Labrador didn't like this and grabbed him when he was hanging in the window .Unfortunately he escaped, albeit with a few bite marks on his ass and arm .

Because they can. Because they were in a hurry, weren't very rational, and just tore the place apart looking for stuff they could sell quickly and easily. Or just to show their contempt for "straight" lifestyles.

A friend of mine (lawyer) in SA was woken by the sound of breaking glass and growling, and went to investigate. He found a burglar with his arm through a small window, trying to reach the catch, and their German Shepherd's teeth locked into his wrist. Blood everywhere. He called the cops who arrested the guy, accepted a brandy and coke, and asked what he wanted them to do with him. My friend didn't understand what they meant, and one cop said they could just take him somewhere and slot him - shot whilst resisting arrest - and that would be the end of his criminal career. This was back in the 1980s, in the apartheid days, and my friend was horrified. He told them to prosecute, but was never called as a witness and I don't know how this ended...........

A few years ago (must be around 6/7 now) we got burgled on the 20th of December, there weren't any presents around as we generally leave it for the last couple of days, however items that cannot be replaced were stolen. My parents room was a complete mess and took around 3 hours to tidy, and my mum was in a state. It isn't a nice experience at all. Once again it was just jewellery that was taken, the laptop, playstation and tv was left alone.
The police found out who had burgled us about 6 months later and they got sent down, but it doesn't make things right really.
Do hope those that commited the crime get caught.

Zac

Damn right!! I hope no one wasin at the time!! Just be glad every one is safe and well.

Its one good reason to leave car keys somewhere 'accessible' for them should someone break in. Saves them rummaging through you're house at night when everyone and wee one is in bed and in possible danger.

I heard a thread on Audi Sport the other day about someone having a gun held to her head whilst her husband search the house for the car keys because the theives couldnt find them!!

My heart goes out to the OP, but I would still check with the local pawnshops etc, even if it didn't help much for your sister's burglary.

In a way I would tend to disagree with intruders holding a gun to the head just for keys. Such incidents are very very rare. I won't say it will/does never happen, but if an intruder goes through so much effort for a car I tend to be a little more sceptical. Look at it from an intruder's perspective..such actions leave more forensic evidence and more potential to be identified. Generally those type of criminals are more professional and would probably look for another easier target than expose themselves to identification..unless there is some OTHER reason for wanting that car from that address.

Back to the OP, as someone who has also been burgled I really feel for your brother.

I think this may have been the Audi thread.

As I said..still very rare, even if CID mentioned it. Normally intruders would look for an easier target than risk all for one car. Never mind the fact that it would be aggravated burglary with a harsher sentence if convicted.

Then again some car thieves just don't care. A couple of years ago thieves jacked up a car in the road, in broad daylight across the road from me. They nicked the wheels then dropped the car onto the floor. If they have the nerve they will do anything. Then there are the car jackings where they cause a light accident then make off with the victims car. Holding someone at gun point in their own home would be the one where they are less likely to be caught or recognised, that and they only have to use force if they are rumbled by the occupants.

A house round the corner from me got burgled on wed night, looks like they broke the glass in the patio door to get in.

Having been burgled three times over the years I do really feel for you and it is a hard thing to have to live with afterwards too.

Here is Just a little true story that may make you smile.

One of my friends came home one evening to find her poor Doberman lying on her kitchen floor choking with a small pool of blood. My friend immediately picked her up and rushed her to the emergency vets. After some time in the treatment room the vet came out and said "you have been burgled!" my friend asked how he knew and the vet replied he found that the the dog had been choking on two fingers stuck down her throat.

sorry to hear this OP , we got burgled years ago , very unpleasant feeling , i told the police what i would do if i found them , i was told to stop or i would be arrested , still not sure what for though  , anyway , it seems as though the latest trend round here is nicking lead of bay window roofs , how the hell they have the balls to do it is beyond me :bang: :bang: :bang:

Sorry to hear about that Fi. What b@st@rds :annoyed::annoyed:

Being burgled anytime is bad enough but at Christmas it must just feel worse.

OP - Really sorry to hear this. Yes, the personal violation is awful.

- last year (i think) the old bandstand at Blyth Beach was renovated. The old copper roof was taken away then reused when the work was done. This was nicked!

I don't think it's balls they have, rather that they have no conscience, no self respect, no respect for other people, are basically feral.

Another 'trend' at the moment is for break-ins to sub-stations etc. to strip and steal the copper in the wires. There have been some quite severe injuries involving electrocution. Darwin will have his way.

your going to love this one , the last place i worked had a spate of breakins and attempted theft , the bloke who looked after security found something one day , it was basically a pickaxe with one half of the axe removed and the other half sharpened to a point , the handle was all wrapped up in foam and tape , we couldnt work out what it was for , the police told us , the pikey scum use them to spike high voltage cables to find out if they are dead or not  , it was found next to a live 440 volt cable .....................
