I am wondering whether Cokin Filters are that good? Or are screw on ones better?
 
Depends on the type of filter......resin filters are Oksih, the screw in type are what you want for a Circ Pol, but for ND grads etc - how do you selectively place them if screw in?

Get screw in Circ Pol ( buy a VERY good one, not an OK one - they are not OK!) A good Circ POL is going to set you back a minimum of £65 - just buy it. Mine were £147 each, because they are 77mms. Smaller ones are slightly less. Cheap polarisers are a waste of money.

Resin filters: Hitech, Lee and other cinamatography filters are the ones to go for - they leave no colour casts other than what they are meant to - ever wondered where the magenta cast came from with cheap ND grads? Decent filyters don't do this.
 
I have already got myself a Circ Pol which is a B+W and hope I made the right choice.

I believe the Lee are like cokin filters is this correct? as i have a cokin Kit or is this a rubbish kit?

Cokin kit is decent enough, guess you have NDgrads then ?

You can also get a circular polariser that fits the Cokin system

I have 2 type of ND Grade with 2 shades and a full ND grad

But Someone says they give off wrong effect and i should off gone down the Lee route but believe it alot more money cant lee filter fit my cokin holder?
 
Another option you have is for HiTech ND grads - no colour cast compared to the Cokin and much cheaper than the Lee filters and they will fit into a Cokin P filter holder.
 
Are Hitech as good as Lee or just not far off? Are they much better than Cokin. Where can I get Hitech?
 
Lee are supposedly the best out there, but they are around twice the price of the Hitech. The Cokin are not ND filters, they are graduated grey filters and will put a colour cast on your images.

I have the Hitech ND filters and they are excellent. You can buy them here
 
I would class Cokin as reasonable "hobby togs" kit.....not stunning and not dire.

I have about 50-60 Cokin P types and they're a good for obtaining some "out of the ordinary" shots.

i didn't know that cokin introduces a colour shift?
I believe their ND filters are true ND ones.

Is there something avaialble to read about it?

i have been disappointed however when using the cokin CPL - it doesn't seem to polarise and instead was very hazy. That might be because it's not genmuine but it's pretty hard to tell with 2nd-hand stuff (no box)

I like the first shot, very nice! :clap::clap:

I've experienced the dreaded colour cast when I had the Cokins. Whoever nicked them with all my other camera stuff will probably be experiencing the same :lol: if they haven't sold the lot on..

Anyway, I'm getting the DLSR starter kit on Friday (Lee Filters) so that'll keep me busy over the weekend :woot:
 
Older Cokin Grey grads had the Magenta colour cast but the newer Neutral Grey grads don't suffer from it. There's little doubt that the Lee filters are better, it's just a question as the whether they're worth the extra to you. Don't forget Hitech as well.
