Filters....

You don't blend (HDR) on location. So how can it be not 'practicle' on location?
"Time consuming [...] when on location"? That's BS too, pardon my French. Doing a bracketing is 10 times as fast as fiddling with filters, filter holders, and tripods!

I take offense at that !
We all have our own way of working, but calling it BS isn't on mate !

I was going to write a longer reply, but frankly i can't be bothered to argue with you.

Till you get home...

How do you bracket well without a tripod? I know I can but I'm awsome :D Also, filter on... thats it. You only have to mess around as much as you do with composition. But we all know that composition is just something those damn commies made up.

If you have the filters, then you can take pics with and without on location, and use the best when you get home. If you don't have them, you're at the mercy of your post pro skills, which don't always always work. And if the filter shots don't work, then you have the pics you took without them. ;)

Most filters can be replicated in PP. The Circular Polariser, ND Grad and ND filters are the ones that can't easily be replicated (and an ND filter can't be replicated), and I'll stick a UV filter on every lens, so they're the ones I have.

Everyone has a choice though, and it's whatever works for you.

Word of warning 2 - Hitech P size and Cokin P size are not identical. The Hitech P system is 85mm wide where as the Cokin P System is fractionally smaller (IIRC 84 mm wide). When I was searching a while back into using Hitech filters in a Cokin holder I read reports of some people having had to modify either the filters (by sanding ) or the Cokin holder (cutting bits off) to make thigs fit.

Whilst it is a tight fit, my experience has been that Hitech filters fit in a Cokin P holder without issue. And i'd much rather have a tight fit than a lose one.

Comprehensive reading seems to be a problem!
Keep your knickers on, Mile.
