Filters: is HMC worth it?

Hello all,

I'm looking at getting a new 77mm Hoya UV filter, and would like to know if it is worth the extra money to buy a HMC filter instead of just a 'normal' one.

I would always say yes. You obviously have a large lump of glass that must have cost a bob or two, so why degrade it with a cheap filter? You will get poorer light transmission and a greater tendency to flare with the cheaper filter. If you can live with that then so be it.
