filters for a beginner

hi all im off to scarborough in a couple of weeks and i would like to replicate all those lovely dreamy smooth sea photos especially if i can get the castle in the sunset aswell. i appreciate the subject of filters has been discussed on here before but which filter and/or filters would you recommend i buy for the above situations? i did buy a set of filters off ebay and needless to say they were a complete waste of money so i wish i had found you folks before i parted with that cash. i dont want to spend a fortune maybe something in the £20 to £30 range is about my limit. the camera i am using is a nikon d3200 if that makes any difference to my options. cheers pete

They do the more expensive filters but also their own which are fairly reasonably priced.

thanks for the reply dave. had a quick look and i think im gonna order the circular polariser. what density of ND filter do i need to achieve the look i am after? i did a bit of research earlier and found out that the ND 8 filter i have only reduces light by 3 stops. i foolishly thought in my innocence that it would reduce light by 8 stops. i have seen videos of people using the lee big stopper (well out of my price range) which reduces by 10 stops. how do i achieve the long exposure time with a filter with only a 3 stop increase? apologies if the question is a little vague or confusing. cheers pete

You might still manage it by stopping the lens to near max, and avoiding bright sun will help.

I expect the German ebay shop have most other sizes if you search through.
The one you linked to seems to be similarly dark but beware some of the cheaper ones create a colour cast - though not difficult to fix in photoshop etc.
The Haida one seems very neutral for a cheap(er) one.
