I won an ebay.co.uk auction (digital camera). I didn't receive the item I paid for from eaby user harbour48. It was a few months ago. I opened a dispute by ebay, but it doesn't resolve my problem. Harbour is no longer available through ebay at harbour48.co.uk nor messages from ebay. The only thing I want is to receive my money back. I supply details below.
Harbour 48 details: Harbour48 Creation House Unit 5 A6 Coombeswood Business Park Halesowen, West Midlands B62 8BH United Kingdom

I discovered that he was representing a comany named photography247 (their website: http://photography247.co.uk/). They sale refurbished digital cameras Details are:

Recently I noticed that he sells items under: filterfantastic-couk
and filterfantastic08. And I think that ebay cooperates with him. Because it's sure that if seller sells the same looking items it is this cheater. When I wanted to buy from the most recent user (filt..fan08) I was rejected, because he knows my username even if he changed his username.

If you want to buy something at this company - I advise against !

photography247.co.uk are listed in the suppliers section on this forum...used item suppliers sticky.

Generally I thought if someone disappeared from Ebay, you would get your money back? Did you use Paypal? Or leave it too long to open a claim which you need to do within 45 days.

They are definately the same operation - I've had dealings with them, both as a buyer, and I think they bought a couple of things too as H48 from me (last minute snipes IIRC)

I know their new website filterfantastic.co.uk .

Does anybody know if is it worth to go there (I know their address) and demand a refund? Would the police go with me?

Does anybody can help me? I can do something instead (freelance work).

The address may well be just a mail drop. Have you checked?

Didn't someone om here buy a camera from them and go and pick it up in person?

I'd still like to know how, having been NRU'd by Ebay under one name they are allowed to continue trading under at least two others as Ebay log the ip addresses associated with every account.....

Police wouldn't get involved, its a civil matter.

Why not try small claims court?

Did you pay with Paypal? Did you open a dispute within 45 days?

Seems I was lucky. But from reading posts on here I won't be going back.

Yes I went up there to fetch a camera in person and got to speak to Tracey who I had dealt with previously on the phone. They have loads of gear up there.

Although the building they are in doesn't have any of the company names mentioned on the front of it. If you would like me to pop up there and find out what the company name they are in I'd do that, only round the corner from there tomorrow, let me know.

Geez I bought a skylight filter last week of these (with no probs) are you sure its the same people as they were very courteous to me

I just won an auction with these guys and wondering whether it's worth going through with the deal - they have brilliant eBay feedback (99.3% on over 5k feedback), and it seems split here. It seems safe enough and maybe just a few bad transactions.. any thoughts?

- Tom

Note: eBay auction was for Nikon D200 camera + 2 lenses (~£550), so it's worrying me whether or not to go through with this

Well you'll get what you paid for, promptly and it'll be in good nick, so I don't think you would be morally right to back out.

Having said that, you probably over paid, the bundles they do have shat lenses, and with a D200 being worth about £400 now, you overpaid on the lenses (I guess they are 28-80, 70-300 kinda stuff?)

However I think you need to go through with it. They are a little shady but generally reliable.

Thanks for the response :), the only reason I am asking is that after seeing comments here I am a little cautious.

Can I ask why you think the lenses are bad? The lenses are:

Nikon 28-80mm F3.5-4.5 AF
Nikon 70-300mm AF

I am quite new to photography (though I do have some prior experience), and I thought that the range these lenses cover would be a good start (though I do also intend to buy a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens). Are there any reasons why it would have been a better idea not to get these lenses?

Thanks,
Tom

Nikon 28-80mm F3.5-4.5 AF

The 28-80 isn't worth more than £30, its awful. And 28mm won't be wide enough.

Nikon 70-300mm AF

This is OK, but used they go for between £20 and £50.

You'd been better off getting a D200 (£400) with a Nikkor 18-70 DX (£100) or a 18-55 (£65).

I am quite new to photography

I'm afraid these bundles are designed to sell to people who don't know much about the gear, they look like good value on the surface, but you paid £150 more for £75 worth of lenses too be honest.

In the way that Mussolini was good in that he made the trains run on time?

Neither are particularly great lenses, but they will do you to get going. You can always sell them and upgrade later.

Thanks again for the reply, but it no longer matters. I have been convinced by other people not to go through with this due to the amount of bad feedback I have seen. I feel kind of bad for doing so, but as a student £580 is a lot of money to me and if there's any chance I won't get what I am paying for I am not going to take the risk. I sent them an email through, as polite as I could make it in the circumstances.

Hi,

My apologies but I will be unable to complete this transaction. Since the end of this auction I have seen many bad reviews about your services [these reference previous accounts supposedly owned by yourselves 'harbour48' 'filterfantastic-couk' etc.], and I no longer feel comfortable trading with you.

I apologise if the information that I got was incorrect, and my deepest apologies if you are a legitimate seller whose reputation has been tarnished through someone spreading incorrect information around the internet. But the fact remains that £580 is a lot of money for me, and I do not wish to risk this amount when I have any chance of not receiving the product in question.

Best Regards,
Tom Cameron

Thanks again for your responses puddleduck, when I do find another seller I will make sure to keep an eye out for a body-only offering and buy lenses separately. May I ask what lenses you would reccomend on a budget?

May I ask what lenses you would reccomend?

Well the D200 is great, but I'd be looking at the Nikkor 18-70 DX as a starter lenses, 18mm will be wide enough and optically its excellent good value. The 50mm you suggested is good as well.

Try to get the body seperately, and get lens that will deliver the image quality you are paying for in the D200.

You'd be better buying a body from the sales forum here, D200s turn up all the time at around £400 from sellers you can check out very easily by just asking or checking the seller feedback section.

That would leave you with £180 for lenses which should get you something decent from the forum and you can always ask for advice again if you need it before making a purchase.

Agreed, for your £580 we can help you spend it well and wisely.

I just spotted a D200 thats for sale right now in the forums here - will look around for a bit longer and most probably purchase that.

Thanks for all of your help puddleduck and FITP :), it's much appreciated for a newbie like me!

This may seem somewhat iffy...but dont write them off yet i have spent hundreds of pounds and got exactly what I paid for and got some freebies thrown in....
Yes I have seen bad press about them but to be honest I do trust them and 99% dont I must be lucky or you lot aint

This is not an endorsment or (use these) thing

Simply I have NEVER had any problems with them
