Filter Thread size

Evening,

I'm looking into buying my first filter (neutral density), but after browsing online for a brief time, I've become a tad confused.

On the back of my lens cover it gives a 72mm size. Yet the store I'm thinking of going with states a 77mm filter will fit my lens. The lens is a Nikkor AF-S 18-200mm if this helps at all.

Looking on Nikon UK's site shows that you're correct, it takes 72mm filters. However, if the store you're planning on purchasing it from is a real (bricks and mortar) shop, take the lens in to make sure that the filter you buy fits the lens it's for!

Cheers. Unfortunately it's an online store, so I can't check that way. I think I'll play it safe and go with the 72mm.

Look on the lens if it's like any other it will have a circle with a line through it and a figure next to it. Thats the filter size.

Bet it ain't cheap at 72mm, 77mm filters are horendous
