Hi All,

With regard to the Older sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 - I am looking at getting a CPL filter to help combat some water reflections and even out the bright sky whilst i am in SE Asia.
Usually i buy the Hoya or Hoya pro.

I have read some people get Vignetting at 10mm with one on, others dont?
some people say that with just one filter it is fine, and the problem only occurs if they are stacking.

Any experiences or Thoughts?

You need the lower profile ones like the hoya pro. Which reminds me i need to sell mine.

Are you talking about the 'slim' ones?

I believe that the Hoya pro are just a better quality and no difference in thickness? perhaps i am wrong there. i should check my lenses when i get home!

what have you got, i may or may not be interested!

A CPL on an ultrawide lens may not help you "even out the sky". At certain angles to the sun it's likely to create unevenness of hue.

This was my dilema, im reading alot of posts with contradicting info.
some say at 45 degrees to the sun, the sky is very uneven, and straight on or sun behind the tog its fine.
Others claim not to have an issue.

i could be wrong but i am pretty sure my hoya pro CPL is about half the thickness of my UV filters so i would think it is classed as slimline

Thats good info, i have the pro variety on a few lenses and they have been excellent quality for what i require.

The problem with CPL filters is that they require two parts to enable you to rotate the filter, which is tricky to do in a slim line package.
Working at ultra-wide angles you do have to be careful as it's very easy to get things in the frame (like the sun) that will cause you problems, especially as the distortion is greatest at the edges. I was a fan of the Sigma 10-20mm but did find it occasionally frustrating at 10mm with flare if you got the angle to the sun wrong.
