If you had to buy a single filter for a wide angle lens (Tokina 11-16mm in this case), which would you go for. I was thinking of a simple UV filter rather than a polarizer due to the effect of vignetting.

I see lenses over here (Japan) just listed as being `Protective`, while others are `UV`...are these likely to be the same thing.

I only want to buy one at the moment as the pound is no longer worth the paper it is printed on compared to the Yen.

Thanks in advance.

Bic and Yodabashi carries Kenko (Hoya) and Marumi - UV and Protector (Kenko parlance) are one and the same.

Putting a filter on such a wide angle lens with cause a noticeable drop-off in corner sharpness, so I'd just use the lens hood and lens cap, and save your Yen!

That`s good advice actually. I might just go for the UV filter simply to protect it from scratches rather than anything else really. I`ll take a wander down to Yodobashi and have a butchers.
