filter for wide angle lens

Newbie question

can you have filter on a wide angle lens(mainly for protection) or does it effect how the WA lens works?

probably a silly question!

A uv or clear filter for protection will not make any difference at all

Yes you can, but it will depend on how wide an angle the lens has. If it is extremely wide there is a risk of vignetting (caused by the filter mount being visible to the lens and resulting in dark corners on pictures).
Generally speaking, if your lens has a filter thread then there will be a filter for it.
