Yes
It doesn't have to be Sunday afternoon, anytime would be just as good. What films do you think don't require deep thought or analysis but are just good, simple and throughly enjoyable?

Here are a few the Tringa household like -

Jurassic Park
The Blues Brothers
Beetlejuice

Dave

Any of the old Ealing comedies.

Back to the future series.

Any wallace and gromit.

Anything pirates or training dragons.

Star wars (all 6 of them)
The new-ish Robo cop
RIPD
How to train your dragon 1&2
Eragon
Van helsing (Huge Jackman)
Shrek 1 was the best (2 & 3 are passable)
Ghost rider (Nick cage) 1 -2 was pretty crap
The punisher a nice little film about revenge.

Blues Brothers (but NOT 2000)
Top Secret
Men in Black
Toy Story
Shrek
Connery Bonds

American sniper

John wick

Walk amongst tomb stones

Edge of tomorrow

These replies show how many I have forgotten -

Catch Me if You Can, Shrek, Men in Black and one of the best Ealing films - The Lady Killers; all excellent ones.

Don't have TV, but when we did:

Historical stuff
Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry and spaghetti westerns), and John Thaw (Morse and Kavanagh QC). I know those aren't films, but I used to like them anyway!

American sniper

John wick

Walk amongst tomb stones

Edge of tomorrow

Not sure American Sniper can be viewed legally outside a cinema at the moment ;)

Fireman Sam... Maybe not a film but short enough not to need a big attention span. Oh the joys of babysitting a granddaughter lol.

When eight bells toll
Guns of navarone
Ice station zebra
Where eagles dare

True Grit (either)

Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
A Matter of Life and Death

In fact anything with Roger Livesey in it is perfect sunday afternoon material.

I've not really got a favorite film but I do like a good war/shooter, western or comedy, also whatever catagory Lord of the rings comes under, I like those sorts of films as well.

I'm normally found watching films on Genvideos, loads of great stuff on there.

For me its older stuff, often war films...

The One that Got Away
The Password is Courage
Sea Wolves
Ladykillers/Lavender hill Mob
Those Magnificent Men in their flying Machines
Any Carry on or On the Buses films

How come nobody has mentioned Hot Tub Time Machine?!

Ghostbusters!

The original obviously but topical nonetheless.

Could have sworn the TV guide said it was on now but can't find it.

You just there before me, Ned. Ghostbusters is definitely one of them.

Home Alone series
Kindergarden Cop

Adult/older teen
The Money Pit
Get Shorty
Jerry Maguire
My Cousin Vinny
The Green Mile (emotional)
The Shawshank Redemption (best movie of all time in my opinion, but not for younger kids)
Hound of the Baskervilles with Basil Rathbone

The Terminal (as mentionesd above - Tom Hanks at his best)

Ben Hur full remastered 3 disk Blu-Ray version (every frame worked on and spans 2 blu ray disks + 1. 11 Oscar winning masterpiece

Original The Italian Job
Edge of Darkness (Mel Gibson remake of British TV series wit Ray Winstone)
The Predidio
Blazing Saddles
Men in Black 1-3
The Matrix trilogy
Zulu
Any cowboy Fim
No Elvis Presley Film......

Some kind of wonderful. If Pretty in Pink had the correct ending I would have recommended that as well.
Fargo
Serenity
All three of Leone's spahetti western trilogy
Jean de Florette & Manon des Sources - you need to be able to read and follow a plot for these, but they are worth it and simple enough for a nine-year old to understand, as former stepdaughter wept buckets at the end of the second one.
Amelie - you also need to be able to read for this one.

Despicable me was quite fun yesterday afternoon/evening. I want Gru's rug and couch!!!

Inconceivable!!!
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya...

Actually talking of sword play,
Puss in boots voiced by Antonio Banderas, and a spin off from Shrek,
is pretty good fun also.

How come nobody has mentioned Hot Tub Time Machine?!
lol, maybe because its one of worst films ever made ;-)

My Sunday afternoon films would be any Bond films - sunday afternoon is about the only time when they're worth watching.

Or perhaps its because you are the only two people that have ever heard of it? :D

Actually I was given the DVD by a friend who made it half way through the film before giving up and passing off the DVD to an unsuspecting chump :-(
So at least 2.5 people have seen it :p

Ah, the old "A friend gave it to me, guv", defence

Pah, maybe high concept films are not for you.
