Yes
My guess is that this question has been asked before.

When processing E6 films the biggest pain is always the rinse/wash stages.
I am told that rinsing with cold water after first development may cause the film to crack/craze so I have avoided this.

In short, how do people here wash slide film at intermediate stages?

Doesn't your E6 kit list recommended temperatures?

A method I intend to use, and certainly use in my c41 at the moment, is to use the water out of the water bath that I use to get the chems up to temp, its already at the right temperature then.
I do make sure the bottles are clean before starting to warm them, just to reduce any crud that might be in the water when I use it.

I used to work at 38C so all of the chemical and rinse were at this temperature kept in a water bath.

Exactly what I used to do. If you start throwing in cold washes, you will also drop the temp of the next process which can’t be desirable. I used a Jobo processor and everything was warmed up to the bath temp. A simple system.

I've been doing pretty much the same as everyone else.
I was hoping for a revelation but I guess I'll carry on sloshing warm water in and out of the tank.

I did not slosh warm water in and out in this way. I had a container with the correct measure of water held at the correct temperature and would wash for the prescribed period period. I would normally add a very small amount of wetting agent to the water. I treat the wash much as I would the developer and fixer.

For the C41 kits that I have used the instructions say that after dev the temperature is not that critical so I get everything up to 38 degrees do the pre-wash/warm up and dev at 38° then turn off the heater so that things are still warm but cooling and carry on. For washes I use tap water plus a bit of hot from the kettle so that it is above 20°C and I have never had problems, I would never use water out of the tank because of the chance of there being dust particles in it.

Intermediate washes and rinses need to maintain the Processing temperature.
This is less true of final washes, which can be initiated at the process temperature, but allowed to cool, and then continued at at a lower temperature with fully filtered mains water to completion.

I think I need to stop using E6 and go C41.
It's much simpler.

That or I buy another hot water tank and have it sat permanently at 38 C.

Well yes, that's what I currently do.
Slosh is just figurative.
