As the title suggests I need some advice from film shooters regarding monitor calibration. I have scanned many of my old negs now since I acquired my V500 and I am keen to have some of the files printed but thought I need to think about monitor calibration.

I know there will be lots of threads on this in other parts of TP but I am keen to get advice from those in the F&C section.

So what approaches do you film shooters use to ensure your monitors are set to some sort of standard!

Yeah, I would be interested in learning a bit about monitor calibration myself. A little while back I noticed some differences in colours for the same photo between my iMac and MacBook so I know something needs to be adjusted, but I've just buried my head in the sand to date...

Well I'm not sure if monitor calibration is worth the bother for ordinary amateurs, but a cheap way would be to post shots and we can all say\vote if they look alright.

When I first noticed a discrepancy between monitors I very briefly investigated calibration, but I got the impression that it was quite time consuming and potentially expensive for the necessary software/equipment. If there's a way to keep this simple I'd be interested, although your post indicates this may not be the case.

I don't think my monitors are far off though, as no one has ever mentioned anything about the colours looking off. I'd post a few photos, but I'm away for the weekend...

I'm using a MacBook Pro,which seems fine. For a while I had a second monitor hooked up, an old Dell, and the colours were quite different, which was a worry. I tried using the non-hardware based calibrations you can find around, but I could never get them the same, so in the end I gave up. The monitor had to go anyway, SWMBO!

I did get a calendar made up, from some of the pics I took in the Holy Land last year (X10), and the colours on that look pretty close so I was reasonably happy. Then I tried printing some shots from a walk with our local walking club, and they are woeful! Nothing I could do so far to make the blue waterproofs look blue :(.

I suspect that there is some work involved and possibly some expense. I use several different machines and I have noticed some real differences between how my images look depending on the device I am using.

I wonder have any of used Spyder type devices?

Also the whole thing just it a bit more complicated looking at Samuels post earlier in this thread about Scaner calibration!!!!!
