Just made the jump to film using an Om1 and a little point and shoot, i got the films developed at costco and scanned but the result was awful.
Bought a Epson 370 and scanned them again and result were a lot better.
Now i need better film, camera and practice

Not sure that you need a better camera. Nothing wrong with an OM1.

Steve.

The photo from the Om1 did come out great after i scanned them. The film i used was better to, but i don't think i keep going with the compact

Not exactly sure how the om1 is a compact... It's a 35mm manual SLR... It's size will be comparable to most other cameras of its type. Sure there are some that are marginally smaller than others, but unless you're thinking of a Nikon F5 or something, they won't vary a huge amount. Unless of course you're thinking of going medium format?

Woodsy, he has an OM1 and a compact

Yes i'm only going to use the Om1 for now and i will try to get myself a Nikon F100.

Owned......

Do developing my own film will improve the negative quality, in the meantime I'm going to send films to Ilford lab to see how they get on.

Ilford are damned expensive - £6.50 for process only. I don't know about anywhere else but AG Photo Lab charge £3.99 for the same service. I've not used Ilford for processing, so can't comment on the service, however I've been impressed with digital prints from them, which, incidentally, were damned expensive.

£6.50 ouch that is expensive

Ilford's prints are very good.

Unlike some labs who will print your black and white images on colour paper, Ilford have a Fujifilm minilab which they modified to print on Ilford's black and white paper.

So when you use Ilford's process and print service, you get proper black and white prints, not colour prints made to look black and white or inkjet prints.

Steve.

I have used them for printing digital B&W and they are very good.

That is another good thing about their service. You can get proper black and white prints on real black and white paper from your digital camera!

A million times better than any inkjet print.

Steve.

Just did another roll with the Om1 and after using my own meter the result are a lot better.
The meter on the Om1 is very unreliable.
