Hey guys! Does anyone know the best place to get film developed? Online or around Leeds? Or just places that provide the service. I'm not too sure! Haha.

I get mine done at a lab called CCimaging, its next to Costco off Hunslet rd.
The best ?, its the best as far as I'm concerned but it depends on format and level of expectation..:)

Thank you! I will have to check that out! I don't think I'd have ever found that on my own haha. How much it it approximately for 24exp 35mm film developing onto cd?

Its a pro lab, maybe you'd be better with one of the high street processors for a 24 exp 35mm film, what is it ?

Well, I suppose Tesco/Asda are as good as anywhere, or you could try SnappySnapps on the Headrow..

Well in theory, like a McDonald's hamburger, the C41 process should be identical anywhere it's used (or "made" for a Mac). ;)

That makes sense xD I'm going to use SnappySnaps. It looks pretty good on the website :) and I can't see that my local Asda or Tesco stores to film developing :(

For all my 35mm colour negs in the last two years I have used Tesco or Asda....Tesco used to dev and scan to a CD for £2 sometimes in 40 mins, but Asda are the only ones left for 1 hour service at cheap prices, dev and scan to CD + index for £3......and the catch for a cheap price? well I have to correct the brightness for scanned shots and on a bad day touch up spots/hairs etc.

That's a lot of help. However, my computer being extremely terrible with memory and speed it's often too much to download photo editing software. Do you think they do that sort of thing in-store? If not, of course, I can download the software. It's just the complications that come with doing so on my computer :(

erm well maybe you should try Boots, but they are near lab prices......but there is no reason why Jessops, snappysnaps, Tesco, Asda etc couldn't all be VG, it just depends how caring are the operators and who-ever maintains the machines.

I see, fair enough. I shall check them all out :) thanks for the help guys! :)

If you want very good work and large file scanning then check this company out, TP members receive a .50p per film discount minimum order £4.00 and I think that they have just introduced a .50p return postage charge, still great value and a lot of members use them and seem to be very happy. The turn around time is within a week.

Jessops give decent results to CD. It's £5.99 but you get another film for free.

Well I had a stack of Jessops 200asa film, expired in 2006 and it's not a bad film...just had a roll done at Asda today...looks a bit grainy with a low scan, but the operator got it right in that I haven't done anything in Photoshop...you'll see a few spots tho'.

Hi guys, you've all been great helps but I'm going to go for it at my local Asda, it may not be great but it's only £2.00 developing per film then £0.97 to put onto CD per film :).

When I have more than one film, the staff ask me if I want everything on one CD, so e.g. if you have 3 films maybe it's only 97p charge= £6.97. Tesco send films away now, IIRC they charge the opposite........ 99p dev and £2 for the CD.
I think Morrisons might still do film, it used to be £1 for dev (no CD equipment) but I've been unlucky with them in that the negs were extra spotty, but if you wanted to test a camera or lens out, it would be cheap using them.

It's been said before countless times, but the Supermarkets can be a good cheap way of getting a film processed. It's impossible to give blanket recommendations, as it will depend on the store, and can depend on the operator who's working that shift, and indeed how long it has been since they changed the chemicals in the minilab machine. The only way is to try it on a test roll - if it works for you, great, if it doesn't, you're only out a couple of quid and a test roll of film.

Personally, my local Asda was pretty good (Asda-Durkar fwiw) but I think they've now pulled the machine out. None of the other local supermarkets did on-site processing. My local Boots were excellent - though not far in price from a pro-lab. In the end I started processing my own instead. Now, the only time I use a lab is if it's a paying job, where I need someone to shout at if the film gets ruined. My pro-lab of choice is also CC-Imaging as mentioned by Joxby in the first reply you got, again because I can drop them in on a morning, and usually collect in the afternoon. For slower turnaround jobs I did use Peak Imaging, however their latest prices are not wildly different to CC-Imaging, so I haven't bothered recently.

I second what TheBigYin says, supermarkets, Boots, Asda etc all vary in quality as it depends on the skill or training of the operator greatly. Although minilabs are highly automated with processing, obviously if things like warning for chemicals needing to be changed are neglected then there will be a loss in image quality. The actual scans/prints really depend on whether the operator just leaves it on auto or actually look at each image for colour casts etc.

I send most of my film to pro labs as their prices are nearly the same as getting it done at Jessops or Boots with the 1 hr service and will generally have my film developed and back within 3 - 4 days. For colour negative, I tend to use 'Club 35' in London, for E-6 colour slide, 'The Darkroom' in Cheltenham and for the occasional B&W, 'Ilford Lab' as they do prints on actual black and white paper unlike most places (pro labs included) who just cheat and print on colour. They look fantastic and justify the slightly higher price.

****It's been said before countless times***

Indeed, and we will have to repeat the same answers to help/encourage people to use film without it being too expensive. Ignoring the fun of using film, the costs should be based on "winners" from a roll of film.

after Tesco screwed up 2 rolls of C41 completely, i switched to PhotoExpress

BRILLIANT...

dev and scan onto CD with a contact sheet in the CD cover

single roll is now £5 incl return PP. posted Monday - got back today...

Snappy Snaps in Chelmsford quoted me £3.50 and 1hr today for a roll of 120.

Seriously? Sounds good!

I'm gonna shoot the rest of my film tomorrow and go test them out I think

Phoned around places in Leeds this morning for the best deals for developing a 36exp 200 colour film on 6x4 plus a cd
Quick colour, Headingley - £9.50
ASDA, Pudsey - £6 for 1 hour, £7 for 24 hour + 97p for cd
Kodak Express, Dragons photos, Leeds Market - £8.98 1 hour or £7.48 24 hour.

I went for Dragons photos as you can park close by in the market car park and, as I didn't need prints, they charged me just £5.98

You should try develop your own with a jobo cpp2 ;)

........when Tesco do it for 99p, mind you there are good and bad supermarkets. When you think of it, people like Fuji installed dev machines so like Macdonalds, no matter where you go you should get the same results....erm well in theory and forgot humans are the fly in the ointment in practice.

Have to agree too. I have also used genie imaging who work out slightly more expensive, but not much and will charge the same for C41 and E6, either 35mm or 120.

Photo Express worked very well for me.

Sent on Thursday
Received phone call Friday mid morning for my CC details - films already developed and waiting to be scanned.
Received CD and negs on Sat morning.

I am in Northern Ireland so was pleasantly surprised at the speed.
4 films cost £16.50.

That seems good value and speedy too. What film was that and what resolution did they scan at?

Photo Express appear to be C41 only. :|

£2 per roll for dev only is cheap though.

That is why I also use Genie Imaging. Its a little more expensive but they do E6 and 120 too.
What an odd webpage. Is the 2 pounds per roll processing only still valid?

Yes. It's excluding VAT so it's actually £2.39, but if you can drop it off and pick it up in person (your information says London but you could be miles away) that's the only costs you'll have to pay per roll.

As freedom says it's not including vat and delivery. I had 8 rolls, including 1 black and White down for £30. Not too bad!

I'm in North London. But it's close to the Northern Line and might be worth a trip once a few rolls accumulate.

Sounds like a fair deal. Some of the highstreet companies charge 6-9 pounds per roll for the processing only. Madmen, madmen...
