Ted Grant said “If you photograph people in colour you photograph their clothes. But if you photograph people in black and white you photograph their souls” and I can relate to that. But more than just people, as you have seen from my contributions in here, I tend to see the world in black and white.

But some things must look better in colour? Ferraris, Ducatis, Bluebells? Well I took a shot of LaFerrari a couple of weeks ago and I think black and white did it justice;

But the purpose of this competition is to show off colour, pick a subject that needs it and if you can take a similar shot in black and white to compare that would be good. I appreciate that might not be too easy for everyone so do a comparison shot if you can.

I think this might challenge me more than anyone else!

This is a crop of a photograph of the one time Mersey pilot cutter, Edmund Gardner painted in the Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz Diez's interpretation of WW1 dazzle camouflage.

The ship has been laid up in The Canning Graving Dock in Liverpool for a long time now and only recently painted in this scheme.
This was taken on a Canon A1 with a 50mm lens on Vista 400. Here's a link to the whole project showing a complete view of the ship.

(It appears that like all 'great artists' such as Warhol and Hirst, this guy subcontracted the actual painting activity to a team of helpers.)
