hi, I don't know whether anyone knows anything about still film cameras, but thought id ask here as i'm in need of any help. for my A level photography project I have to use a film camera. it was all working fine and then suddenly its stopped working and wont wind on. its a fully manual Phenix DC 303K. at first i thought it was because my film had ended so i took it out and put a new on in, but its still not winding on.

any help with this would be much appreciated as my exam is next week.
thanks matt.

I'm not familiar with Phenix cameras I'm afraid, but if it is a manual-only camera then it will be mechanical, so this will rule out battery failure.

If it won't wind on then presumably the shutter is already cocked, so if the shutter release button won't fire it have you tried activating the self-timer to see if that releases it?

the timer switch is turned but still nothing happens. pressing the shutter release doesn't do anything and the winder crank its just loose.

I know on some mechanical SLR's, if the winder crank is loose it can sometimes be due to it not being wound on all the way - although I realise you'll probably have tried this already.

Failing that, if there's no separate button to activate the self-timer, then it may need someone to have a look at it for you.

thanks for the help iv got it working now there was one more click on the winder crank. feel quite stupid now but thank you again.

Is the mirror up or down?

I dont know this brand, but I would be working through the sequence of mechanical events. does it step down the aperture on shooting ? if so look at that mechanism. Is the mirror stuck? What about the shutter curtains?

I think that all you can do is have a good luck and try to see what the situation is and what parts seem to be not moving.

Did it stick before winding? After?
