Hi everyone,

It's my girlfriend's birthday in a few weeks and I need present ideas. I'm making her a camera cake already but i wanted to get her a real camera too! something cheap (preferably >£25) and quirky, I'm thinking along the lines of a Kiev 4a? Anyone know of anymore cheap, fun, interesting cameras?

Thanks
Nick

If it's quirky you're after a Fed or a Zorki would fit the bill or how about a folding medium format, you should be able to pick up a nice Isolette for that money.

Something small and fun, made up into a kit or packet.

Make up a nice gift box with a lomo-style compact such as the Olympus Trip, Agfa Optima or one of the other under-rated Trip-a-likes, a couple of rolls of nice film, a voucher for developing, maybe an old-style flip album to encourage printing.. and if the budget will allow it, a copy of Hot Shots (Kevin Meredith).

I think a Trip is a really really good suggestion, although the refurb ones are out of your price range. However, the selenium cells tend to stay in quite good nick and they only ever have two shutter speed settings anyway, so it's not that much of a problem.

Konica Auto S2, Great rangefinder camera, wonderful lens and almost bomb proof.

Looks good too.

Voigtlander Vito B or C should come in under £25.

How about an Agfa Clack? Should come in under £25 and without the hipster overtones of a holga/diana, plus they give good results

the cynic in me says "something you'd quite like for yourself" as she'll probably be polite, thank you kindly, and go off and continue taking photographs on her iPhone...

(sorry - having a rather bad day!)

a classic trick :naughty: but she does photography at uni so she should like it :)
thanks for all the responses!

If you want cheap, but fun and useful, go for a fixed-lens rangefinder.

I'd second that! They look great and are brilliant cameras especially if you get one with the skopar lens.
There are other models too; the BL and CL have a lightmeter, the CLR adds a rangefinder.

I didn't suggest the CLR as I haven't had my first film back yet but I have to say that its a cracking camera to use.

Camera cake! Love it.
