Film availability

I'm toying with the idea of getting a film camera again, possibly medium format. Otherwise, 35mm. Just what film is available in 120/35mm? Is that a worldwide situation? Or, are some films available overseas? I have contacts in the USA, and Japan. Oh, thought I'd be interested to develop myself, really I'd not have the facilities, or the time.
 
plenty of film available - black and white, colour or slide, you pay's your money and takes your choice. No particular need to import from overseas, there's plenty of types to go at. Only difference is it's not particularly well stocked on the high street anymore, and most of us die-hard users tend to buy from internet sellers. Have a look at 7dayshop, Mailshots, AG-Photographic, and good old Fleabay. My advice - find a film you like, then buy short dated stock on the cheap, get a large freezer container, and stick the film in the deep-freeze 'till you need it.
 
I can't find any tungsten balanced slide 120, like 64T...:shake:
 
In fact theres no tungsten balanced film around any more.....

(Apart from motion picture film which is mostly tungsten balanced)
 
Nuts. I didn't realise.

I still have some Tungsten film left.

Better invest in a new fridge ;(
 
Theres a big selection of film around these days, it's probably having a bit of a mini revival. The popularity of cameras like Holgas and Dianas these days, and the perceived 'coolness' by the young in film photography has certainly secured good supplies for a long time yet. Everything these days seems to come round in circles!
 
There are actually hundreds of film types out of production - most of them are pre 1930's roll or sheet formats though.

Colour 126 and colour/B&W 110 should hopefully be back in production next year by ADOX acording to their German website although the 126 project is not listed on their English site. Their apparently getting all the production moulds etc from Ferrina who used to make it until a few years ago. Doing 126 is logical though as it is essentially 110 just bigger and square.

Disc film could have been better if all the labs had actually listened to Kodak and used the recommended new 6 element lenses for printing but most just stuck with the older 3 element ones so the prints looked even worst.
 
I wish I had the chance to shoot a roll of Kodachrome, although I came into the game far too late for that to have been a realistic possibility. Old Kodachrome slides seem to be absolutely wonderful things.

ADOX has been saying it's going to be bringing 110 into production for a while, they have constantly been pushing the date back - most 110 diehards have long given up waiting and just spooling their own, as far as I can see.
 
You have to give them a chance, they've been having a lot of problems with the manufacturing process and the other problem is that its being funded by Fotoimpex, so if profits from Fotoimpex go down then work on the 110 project is suspended like it was for most of the latter part of last year. It'll come eventually.

You might be in luck with Kodachrome as there is actually a group trying to recreate a K-14M line as the manufacture of the actual chemicals etc is listed on the patent and it is still possible to find old 'K lab' minilabs for sale that were made by Kodak to try to increase the profability of Kodachrome as few years ago by having more labs. Theres still loads of unexposed Kodachrome floating around so who knows...

Yeah, I'm not knocking them, but in both of these cases I'm being realistic - keeping expectations thoroughly low. I was going to try my hand at respooling but cutting it down to 16mm would be too expensive for what is basically just trying a novelty. The Impossible Project is probably the best example of a product being recreated, and IMO that's finding limited commercial success with a product that simply isn't up to scratch - don't get me wrong, they've managed to pull off a lot already, but it takes more then that.
 
Loads of 35mm - and Warehouse Express have all sorts in stock at much better prices than a local camera store.
 
Probably not the right thread but, I've been in two poundland shops now and they only have Kodak colorplus and not much of that, they used to have a VG film "ultramax" 400asa 36 exp but that's all gone.
