When opening multiple images in CS4 I am currently getting a single image in a window, with the other images listed in tabs. If I want to drag one image to another, I first have to right click on the image tab and select 'open in a new window' or I have to go to the menu option 'window>arrange' to split the images out.

Is there any way I can set the images to open in multiple windows as a default?

Click Window>Arrange>Float All in Windows

I think.

Thanks for that Tiler. It resolves the problem once CS4 is open and the images have already been opened, but after I close CS4 down, the default resorts to a single window and tabs.

Start CS4, then click EDIT>preferences>interface

You should now see a dialogue box, in the middle where it has Panels & Documents, uncheck 'Open Documents as tabs'

That should do it.

Can you open a picture as a new layer ?

At moment having to open file, select it, copy it, go to other window then paste it.

For that, rather than select it, copy it and paste it, I just use the move tool and drag and drop it on to the other image, where it will then appear on a new layer.

Files opening as tabs has been bugging me for ages. Thanks for the tip.
