Edit My Images
Yes
I've cropped and resized 4 images then saved them below the max file size but had forgotten to sharpen, i then sharpened the images but it has made the files to big
Can anyone tell me how to make a file smaller after saving please.

Mitch

Hello chap!

If we're talking JPEG you can always change the compression level which will make the file smaller but you'll start to notice compression artifacts.

Can you tell us a little more about the circumstances behind what you're doing? What format the images are in? What software you're using?

Edit: Sorry, I'll read your post in full next time!

Although I haven't used Elements, I'd guess that when you save the image as JPEG you'll get an option to change the compression level I was talking about above. Depending on the picture you may be about to go down to 7/8 - assuming that the software presents you with the 12 standard levels of JPEG compression and doesn't give you something like a 1-10 scale.

Thanks Sambonebs.
I'd already saved the files at below the Forum 161kb max but had forgotten to sharpen, when i did sharpen it pushed the file sizes up to 180kb plus and i can't find a way to make the files smaller again.

Assuming you are using PS then re-import/sharpen and save for web.
That usually does it.

Thanks OG.

found the easiest thing was to delete the files and start again, I'm useless with this processing lark

just reopen them and resave with a lower setting to bring within the file size, you loose a bit of quality but for web viewing it shouldn't be that bad
