File Names

You can rename in windows

Although windows can rename multiple files, the names it gives are not particularly useful - basically a filename followed by a number in brackets. (Unless anyone can tell me a different way of doing it)

I think the OP wants to do a high number of files - and doing each one manually will take forever!!

Is there a program that will lets say save a image 100 times all with different numerical file names?

Thanks

Presuming this is correct and you wish to make multiple copies of the same image then most programs will assign a different name by adding one digit to each file number each time you save it.

As to creating 100 duplicate files simultanously, I know of none.

Different numerical filenames is what the op asked for.

OP has Photoshop cs3 and so probably has Bridge too, copy and paste 7 times as Olypaul says, Bridge will - I think - apply a numeral to the end of the filename of the 1st, then select all (cmd + A) and batch rename (cmd + shift + R) to whatever you want all in Bridge.

I think you can do this with Lightroom as an export, but you might need a plug-in to tell it how many copies to export. It can certainly do the sequential numerical filename requirement.

Well the way i suggested took me all of 2 minutes to do, so that should be good enough right?

Worked for me, I just copied as you said then, in windows I selected all the files, right clicked, chose rename and typed in Vase as the new name.
I then had pics named Vase, Vase (2), Vase (3) etc. Easy enough to rename the first one Vase (1) for consistency.

Which is what I said happens when you use windows to rename multiple files - it's not exactly what the OP was wanting I don't think.

Not used the app suggested above, but I have used an app called "Bulk file renamer" which allows you to make various filename changes including replacements, part replacements etc.

Total Commander is a great little program for this in the "Multi Rename Tool"you can set your own criteria including filename, date, counter or custom fields. you can see a preview pane that will show you how your files will look after you hit the start button. It's a great replacement for Windows Explorer too.

Has many many other great features too

Total Commander
