I did a google images search on boxing sportraits and its all pretty poor.

Has any fellow sports photogrpahers got any reccomendations? am looking for fighter sportrait insprirations BUT not anyone who uses any special PP techniques... Boxing top of list but MMA, Kickboxing also

ta hadnt thought of stock.. just google images... however am looking for more in a gym shots (yeagh i should ahve said - my fault ) rather than studio setups... on location sportraits..

Pick the name of any well known boxer and add 'gym' to the search.

For example either 'muhammad ali' or 'henry cooper' bring up some great shots.

The older boxers seem to have better photos taken of them rather than the modern, PR controlled, shoots!

Tony, I have found that I needed to use side lighting (from strip boxes if possible) to get the best out of my fighter/gym portraits. It helps define the body better and give them an 'edge' to looking mean/fit/tough.

Shoot from below head height so as to make them appear taller and if shooting fast punch shots to use as high shutter speed as possible when hitting something so the thing being hit is frozen and this makes it/them (punchbag/person) have better definition at the point of impact.

Cheers:) done a lot of actual boxing photography so the second bit i know :) however I dont have any extra lighting and to be honest wouldnt know how to use it if I had.. flash lighting is my weak point :( ...I am going to use the actual gym and natural light from window and do gritty shots.. not after clean shots.. With a high iso capable camera I should be OK

So it was more the pose in the gym than the lighting I was looking for hence the examples.. I ahve no idea of best poses or tricks of the trade so to speak..

I deffo dont want clean flash studio type stuff.. i want gritty dirty poorly lit shots of boxers in natural enviroment..

if that makes sense? I ahvent done anything like this before but have the opportunity to do lots if i get it right :)

thats the sorta thing Andy .. but porbably will (along wiht simple poses like yours) try summat fancy...just dunno what yet.. been too busy and mega weekend starts tonight..

THANKS BTW :)

Most fighters are show offs and pretty much love themselves so you will find they are pretty much up for anything. HA.

Tony,

Although recent work has had more processing than you could shake a stick at, took this last year of Nathan and all this has has done was a little bit of curves for contrast and a vignette. Speedlight left, speedlight right, both in reflector brolly's for lighting.

Well I am going to the gym at 5.30 today.. take some training shots and I ahve organised wiht one of the fighters to have some time for sportraits... Have a few ideas but nothing special... this will be in an old school gym nothing new/fancy so hopefully that will give me summat to think about..old factory ...

Good lighting through windows..

Thinking standard training pics.. then some posed.. haunched down with chosen background and diff angles.. ring pics.. stood in corner sat in corner stuff like that...

no smiling... moody..

no flash ...think will try to expose correctly and then play at home.. thinking under expose might be the way to go for darker moody look.. fighter is white light skinned..

really havent found much inspiration.. I think its what I do in PP thats gonna make the picture..

hmm might try RAW.. Never really done raw.. but as was pointed out to me recently.. its not all about fixing bad pictures.. its about adding effects....yeagh raw maybe..

half an hr.. any last minute ideas?
