Would be over London less than a minute after and the cycling is still going ahead.....

I think the word you are looking for is Chinook...

Think yourself lucky we get Apaches "practising" around here often. I like to take some pics of them with "the big lens" - what is slightly unnerving is whilst doing so you see the underslung machine gun lock on to you as the pilot turns his head to see what you are up to... (The gun is slaved to the monocle)

Which is unusual since we live in South West London quite near heathrow.
It was flying at about 4000 feet heading towards central London, something to do with the Olympics maybe?

It was a Typhoon QRA (Quick Reaction Aircraft) scrambled to intercept a Boeing 737 for some reason.
