Seasons greetings all, hope your enjoying the festive period :)

Ive posted this post for advice in the sports section as I thought id get the right type of people viewing. Please move if needed though admins :)

Right my Muay Thai club is fighting this Sunday, last night the coach asked if any one knows a photography or any one who can take decent photos.
I went to see him and told him im a hobbyist so could help out.

I am not getting paid for this its a favour, although saying that he told me I wont have to pay to get in which is £20 I still see it as a favour though.

This will be the first time in this kind of photography so would like some pointers really. It is being held at a big social club, so id imagine the lighting to be fairly dull?.

I have a nikon D3100 with 18-55, 55-200 and a 35mm 1.8 prime. I also have a flash gun but I guess I cant use that lol.

With the composition of the photos should I always try to get our guy face on? surely that would involve alot of running around?

Ah Talk Sports I never thought of that
As above then please mods :)

haha fame at last :)

I would probably use the 35mm prime as I am guesing the light will be poor

Stay low.. sit on floor if you can
Patience. Dont go trying to follow them around.. there should be enough opportunities for them to face you and get those shots

I know nothing about your gear so cant help on that side of it.. Just dont be afraid to up the ISO. Also do you know how to set white balance? because thats more than likely to be off..

Hi thanks Tony, good advice.
Well ive read about setting the white balance from a grey or white card? but have not done it. To be honest not to sure how to, then how to use it also.

Ive never felt i needed it... until now maybe :)

If you have never done it before and no way of learning or testing before the event then yes shoot raw fix later.. its a poor way of working on a regular basis and not somehting I would reccomend.. but if your on a tight time frame as you seem to be and cant master WB in time...especialy good enough to be confident then use RAW..

But you will need a lot of cards as raw files are big and combat sport usualy means lots of clicking :)

Ok right, will the incandescent setting not cut it? lol

with the lots of clicking should i just hope im fast enough to capture, or set on continuous?

thanks again for your help :)
