Hi, OK I no it's a photography forum but maybe someone will no the answer?
I live a distance from the server that gives me broadband, It is supposed to be 30mb speed but I only get 8 to 10mb. If I change the the cable from the box that connects to the phone companies cable and then into the house to fibre optic cable would that increase or help to increase my speed?.
Thanks
Russ

Generally fibre stops at the street BT junction box for your area and then it's copper cable from there to your (and everyone else's) house, so adding fibre at the end of that copper wire and into your house wouldn't help.

OK. Thank You

I’m no expert, but I think that is under the threshold that they quote?
I’m pretty sure it should be faster, worth a complain. That is slower than mine, and mine is just traditional broadband.

What did they quote the speed as before you signed up? Not the upto xx rubbish but they give you a more realistic estimate normally before you say okay to the contract.

But no as above, altering anything (beyond the usual bell wire mod if you have old cabling, but that is more for reliability) on the consumer side will not improve your Internet service.

If you have a lot of money, they can run fibre to your property. It ain't cheap though and price will depend on your distance from the box.
I was given a guesstimate of around £3k and I'm 800m odd from the box.

I was about to suggest the BT number check to determine which number BT box he is connected plus the Sam Knows database to 'find' the distance to the exchange but then noted on the OP's profile he is in Greece and here 4 times a year......................is it UK or Greece he is asking about???

PS Though his replies appear to suggest the UK? So as noted it the last copper section that will regulate his received speed and some street boxes can be a long way form the house. FWIW mine is approx 500M, I am not on FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) but the BT checker tells me if I recall that I should get a min of 25MB speed were I on Fibre. FWIW I get more than the Up to 2.5 for ADSL, now running at 3.24 :)

An ISP should typically give you a minimum guaranteed speed which they probably include in the original order confirmation email (Our company does this). However usually slow speeds like this are purely location based as you probably live past the optimal copper cable distance from your cabinet. As someone above said your probably on Fibre to the Cabinet so nothing much you can do :/

Hi, Nope I live in Greece and they have only in the last six months put in equipment to give us a better speed. After a couple of days now my connection according Ookla online speed test is now ranging from 10 t0 19 Mps. I live quite a distance from the cabinet and before the upgrade was on 3.5mps so in seventh heaven now. Thank you all for the replies and hope you all have a great New Year.
