The Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, unveils its 2010 line-up - and for the first time, it includes a female pilot.

Flight Lieutenant Kirsty Moore from Lincolnshire previously served as a Flying Instructor, teaching students to fly the advanced fast jet trainer at RAF Valley, before flying the Tornado GR4 on operations in Iraq.

She looks quite dandy as well. Kirsty should be Okay because she only has to fly it, not park it
Good luck to her.

I bet she's still useless with mini-roundabouts.

heard about this on the radio this morning.....

however, the full fronted helmet will stop her doing her makeup whilst flying so I think there's nothing stopping her flying

Until recently, no female fast-jet pilot had reached the stage in their flying career to fulfil the application criteria of being assessed as above average in their flying career, having a minimum of 1,500 flying hours and to have completed at least one front line fast-jet operational tour.
didn't know this....good stuff :)

I'll resist the temptation to quip that she's only in the Red Arrows once every 28 days.....

Oooops....too late :naughty: :exit:

You lot are disgusting, ANY woman who has the skill and determination to get to a level that lets her even be considered for the Red Arrows, with only have a couple of hours spare a day, after she's done the hoovering, washing up, got the kids off to school found hubbys tie, not to mention walking the dog, has my fullest admiration!

And she's cute too!

Good job she doesn't have to reverse the thing :D

There's a noble heritage of pink military aircraft.

I always thought the RAF were a bit on the pansy side :suspect: but then I read this

The RAF performed trials with high altitude reconnaissance aircraft visibility(based on the observations of the founder of the PRU, one Sidney Cotton) and came up with this ! Carries the serial PL965/R and formed half of a display partnership, with Hurricane XII G-HURR as "Pink and Black". When last I saw this aircraft (2005), it had changed to the more commonly applied, PRU Blue scheme.

The greatest drawback of the pink camouflage was that this colour made the pilots feel very vulnerable.

Fantastic news, have been lucky enough to do some training with ex-Red Arrows pilots, they really are special people, a very elite team. I learnt an awful lot from them, in fact i would go as far as saying they changed the way I lead my life !

I wish her every success, although it goes without saying that to have made the grade she is already awesome, oh and very disciplined, I do like a disciplined girl ;)

This is a grim day indeed

????
I've been watching her these last few weeks and listening to her on the scanner. She is without a doubt doing an extremely good job of it. She's also thoroughly enjoying it from what I've heard.
Got to say I admire all of these girls that fly fast jets. Coningsby have a few on the GR4's and I know of one on the Typhoon.
She's got a great sense of humour and regularly posts on a forum I use.
I know I wouldn't have the balls to even attempt to do what any of them do. So they have my respect.

Kev.

I believe when she first got inside one of the Hawks she asked "Is it made by Hotpoint or Zanussi?"
