Well I've bitten the bullet and invested in a Feisol tripod I purchased from Feisol UK I decided on the CT 3442 and I've purchased the CB-50D ball head along with 3442 centre column kit total cost of £435.

Now my old and trusty pod was a Manfrotto 055 PROB that I had the 804RC2 head which weighed in at approx 3kg.

The Feisol all in is 4g shy of 2kg and the head is a beast at 570g and the centre column is 252g I'm impressed so far but I do already wonder if I could have done with the Cb-40D which is slightly smaller and lighter but both have a more than adequate max capacity for my needs with my little old D750 but I have yet to use any of if properly but I do hope we have some decent weather at the weekend so just maybe I can get out and put it all through some real life tests and if not there is always next weekend :)

anyone know where decent weather requests get sent?

I personally bought the biggest 70mm ballhead CB-70 since weight is not for me the
real issue but rock solid gear that will endure the usual abuse I summit my stuff to.

If you intend to use only light gear, their smallest model would have suffice. Refer to
their weight guide.

I have the 40d. When I ordered it I thought maybe I should have got the 50d instead. However the 40d is rock solid and the perfect size for travel. I use it regularly with a gripped d800 and 70-200 with no problem at all. The 40d is also useful when I don't want to take the whole tripod so I pack that and a manfrotto clamp!

P.s the only thing I don't like about the bullhead is the screw arca clamp at the top. It can be a bit fiddly sometimes especially outside when your in a hurry. I've considered swapping it for a really right stuff equivalent but apparently it can't be removed

You won't be disappointed with the feisol mate. Money well spent imo/e. I'll be taking a look at that ball head soon, deciding if I need to change mine or not ;)
