I've been looking at lenses on the internet and now surfing other sites (facebook et al) the ads are all geared towards photography equipment - including some of the lenses I was specifically looking at!

yep, this is common place now. your browser stores your previous searches and these are used by select suppliers (often ones you've searched on previously).

I'm currently getting a lot of adverts from Wiggle.co.uk a bike component supplier as I've searched their site a number of times recently.

Or download Spybot and get rid of all the spyware on your computer!

Some of the spyware can submit your personal details such as credit card or passwords.

Sounds a bit like Phorm, although I thought they had stopped it in the UK.

I've heard that antivirus programmes on a mac do more harm than good though

If you're using Firefox you can get a Greasemonekey script that blocks all the ads on Facebook and the like...
