Ok, So i opened up the camera to put a film in and realised the little screen on the inside had cracks in it like so:

Now, is it meant to be like that? Bearing in mind I have never opened a film camera in my life! Thanks in advance.

Don't panic, it's fine - it's called a leaft shutter, they're little metal blades that fit together really tightly  Press the shutter release with the back open and you'll see it all work, just keep your finger out of there!

Just a technical note - this isn't a leaf shutter. It's a focal plane shutter, and the individual metal bits are part of the shutter curtain. Most obvious way to tell is that if it was a leaf shutter, it would have a higher than 1/100 flash sync speed (leaf shutters can sync at all shutter speeds). Pedantic, I know.

Or more specifically its a vertical run, metal focal plane shutter.... :)

Aren't leaf shutters on lenses too rather than bodies? (not trying to rub it in, lol, just a general question)

Both - leaf shuttered lenses are on several medium format SLR systems, leaf shuttered bodies are often on TLRs.

Better count me as an idiot too then

I should have known that after all the hassle I had with the LX shutter!
