Bought myself the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 on Friday morning, just before I went to work, from the luvverly peeps at URGalaxy.

It's now Saturday, late evening, and my lens is already at FedEx's Stansted sorting facility! Estimated delivery is for Monday! I'd have been lucky to get that sort of service from a UK supplier...

Stay posted for actual delivery updates!

I know what you mean, I ordered a lens mid week from HK and it was delivered within 48 hours with full tracking and good communications throughout, makes you wonder why this level of service can't be provided as the norm in the UK.

If it's like my Fedex from HK then 1 day to get to the uk and 5 days to travel the last 30 miles.

I have a D50 and lens advertised on ebay, a guy from canada wants to buy it, it's over 3kg with the boxes, I get a price from royal mail with £500 insurance, £73 for a 5 day service, muppets

I know what you mean, Hugo is a very good ebay seller and
gets the gear out to you in no time:clap: unlike some uk online shops. I orderd a Lee 82mm adaptor ring from morco over a week ago and no sign of it yet.:bonk:

The thing with international shipping via courier is that the thing that takes the longest is the package traveling through the sorting centers. Think about it, once it's on a plane heading to the UK, it takes a day at most (and is the quickest part of it's journey), but the courier has to find out who it's going to when its surrounded by THOUSANDS of other packages that will be spread out across the whole country.

Even then it's only a few days to sort and put on the right truck. I'v always found items ordered from HK have been very quick, my 40D was sent by UPS I think, took 3 days.

Royal Mail international is very expensive, it's better to go with a courier like DHL, FedEx or UPS.

I looked at DHL but their standard insurance is £100, when you start adding on extra insurance it isn't much cheaper and it means I have to wait about all day for them to come and collect it.

I once send some golf clubs DHL, their online tracking showed them in London at 4am, unfortunately the car boot they went in at 4:10am and the pub they were sold in at 11am weren't on the tracking system :bang:

It was then that I found out they were only insured for £100 :(

Ok well if you're selling it on eBay the buyer should pay for shipping...

Nice one! A grip and a lens on the same day - just like Xmas!

:-)

Cool. Just aone word - watch out for the VAT/duty invoice. If the seller offered a refund of any charged, do your homework now cos the invoice may well follow...

Well, my lens was delivered today just before midday:)

Along with the battery grip from Martin! So all-in-all, it's been a happy day...

Martin I take it that you have been charged VAT/duty before then what happened to you exactly?

Bill

It seems to be luck of the draw with VAT/excise duty - I've not been stung yet, but I'm sure there will be a day....

hugo is cool - took about 2/3 days for my 120-300 to arrive. just ordered a raynox macro snap on from a german company on ebay last tuesday and havent even had an email from them saying its been despatched... :(

I think they use the dartboard approach as to who gets stung, I ordered a film poster from the US, it was £22 I got charged £8 in duty vat and PO collection fees.

a few weeks ago I wanted a HDMI switcher, they were much cheaper in the US but the post was very high, they offered a discount on 5 units and the post was the same as for 1 so I asked on a few forums if anyone wanted one and we'd divide the cost x5

I was fully expecting a £40+ bill as the box was massive with a big invoice on the side with the purchase price which was over $200, never heard a word
