Must admit. Living through the 80's was hell on a stick but now, with the aid of some seriously rose-tinted spectatcles I can look back at it a bit more objectively and appreciate the quality of the music without the arrogant narrow-mindedness of youth.

You'd never have caught me listening to T'pau lol!

Red Box - Lean on me
Fat Larry's Band - Zoom
Human League - Don't You Want Me
Duran Duran - Save a Prayer

If you're looking for advice on Belinda Carlisle - look no further, I happen to know a guy ;) who has EVERY single and album she released (except for this latest French one she has done). In various formats 7", cds, 12", cassette single, picture disc and all those cd singles that were marked as cdx..... denoting that it was a fancy package type thing with postcards, posters etc etc.

Who is this guy, oh that'll be me then.......

What a great thread . I've recently been spending a bit of time on YouTube checking 80s stuff and this thread has reminded me of a ton of other old tunes to view.
However, the track I keep listening to is 'Wishing' by Flock of Seagulls :geek:. Its strange how I never liked them at the time (indeed we used to mock them ), but now they sound great - I reckon its a serious case of rose coloured specs, or most chart stuff these days is naff :D.

I reckon anything from Joy Division :notworthy:(just made the 80s :( :'( :(), Bauhaus :woot:, Southern Death Cult (the Cult), The Cure, Thin Lizzy, or The Stranglers would be great, but maybe not for a wedding :gag: !

Department S - Is Vic There?
I thought I was the only person on the planet who had heard this.
Reminds me of some other obscure favourites of mine such as:

Primitives - Crash
Athletico Spizz - Where's Captain Kirk
Wreckless Eric - Whole Wide World

Some some more well known faves include:

Eurithmics - Sweet Dreams.
Cindy Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
Billy Idol - White Wedding.
OMD - Enola Gay.
OMD - Maid of Orleans.
Pet Shop Boys - Opportunities.
Pet Shop Boys - Always on my Mind.

Wow plenty of these I have never heard of! then again I was only born in 82 so have some kinda excuse I guess :p

The Bangles - walk like an egyptian was the first song I ever owned - god knows why! and Lady Pitstop beat me on that one.

Dont know why but my music tastes seem to stop mid 70 to mid 90s :| what happened in those 20 years? anyone know? :p

Edit:

Dire Straits - Brothers in arms
Dire Straits - Money For Nothing
Eric Clapton - After Midnight

I bought my first record in the 80's, Messages by OMD (which I still like a lot), and also my favourite song ever, Blue Monday by New Order.

The 80's being my teenage years, I had favourite groups who I seemed to like almost everything they released, (doesn't seem to work like that anymore :() so anything by these lot is OK by me. ;) Bunnymen, Teardrop Explodes, OMD, New Order, The The, Orange Juice, Martin Stephenson & the Daintees. Then there were the individual songs that stood out;

Blancmange - Living on the Ceiling
Prefab Sprout - When Love Breaks Down

The The..... This is the day .... 12" .... with Jools Holland on piano.

Hard to beat.
