Hi all,

I am looking to get some inspiration and just wondered what your favorite photographers (plus websites) were and why?

Thanks

Josh

me, because I is all that matters. I do however think that there are a few photographers which are not as great as they are made out to be.

Steve Carter is the guy who inspired me to buy a DSLR and give it a go, due to his location its very hard not to love his work...

As Jaffster already said our very own Edinburgh Gary, this time last year he was just about to blow us all away with his stunning landscapes and as the year progressed his sunsets became jaw dropping  Miss your work!

My favourite has to be Steve McCurry... I've been following his work ever since I saw his National Geographic image of the Afghan girl. He's an amazing photographer and he really knows how to capture the essence of a person. :)

Different one from me, there is a slideshow on here as most people here are not interested in equestrian!

Galleries are on this site for those who don't understand french you have to click in the word "ici"

Perhaps not to everyones taste, and its a shame he seems to have archived some superb shots, but he does give some very different angles that really should not work but do if you are prepared to dig for them.

He must be really **** to be on magnums website:D

Besides one or two others mentioned here, Alec Soth is a 'tog I like.

Great thread, BTW; was looking for a bit of inspiriation, thanks guys

Have subscribed to this, so let's keep it rolling :)

EDIT: Oop, missed Vicky's link to the Alec Soth site earlier! Anyway this guy is interesting too; more of an artist than a 'tog, although photography does feature a lot in his work.

My old favourites were Henri Cartier-Bresson for his candids, and Don Morley for his sports/motorcycle GP racing shots.

I've been away from the hobby for so long, I'm not familiar with any modern names.

I was at the Photographers' Gallery this morning in the heart of London's glittering West End and can now add Sophie Ristelhueber to the list.

I then went to the Whitechapel Gallery (check me out) for Where Three Dreams Cross and that has about 80 photographers from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh - most virtually unknown in the UK. I'm going to enjoy going through the catalogue to find some new favourites.

But as far as I'm concerned without André Kertész there is no photography. The RA is doing an exhibition on him and other Hungarian photographers (Capa etc) next year - should be good!

EDIT:
Very pleased to see the positivity for Alec Soth!
