fave cover versions...

Nick cave and the bad seeds': live seeds album contains a jaw dropping cover of the nina simone song. Plain gold band.

The live seeds album is a must have for any bad seeds fan. It's touted as the missing link, intended to present the band in its raw state after an album they weren't exactly chuffed with the production of.

Then about half way through this tour de force of a great post punk outfit in their prime you get this gem of a cover, it starts with chiming harmonics reminiscent of sonic youths shadow of a doubt and then in comes the rolling bass line and caves sonorous baritone.

But what makes the song is that glorious moment at 3:20, blixa and Harvey extract a stunning moment of guitar noise that encapsulates the resignation and desperation of the song. Everything comes together here. A great original song, a cover where the musicians interpret and colour the song with their own style and some great playing "for the song".

In fact, the whole Pin ups album for me...all great and distinct cover versions. (esp. See Emily Play - equal to the Pink Floyd original). :)

Great album, Craig, but really don't like the original Emily.

Get what you mean, some stuff is quite whimsical/naive,
