Faulty 5D3?

Hi,

I just took recent delivery of my new 5D3. I was starting to go through the options and set it up as I wanted but thought I'd try it out with the 24-70 I got with it. Focus set to one shot, it will only lock and obtain focus 1 in 10 shutter half presses and gives the no focus symbol. I have tried it with new and old lenses and ranges with the same result. I only get the flashing red in the view finder very occasionally. I have tried the 24-70 on my old body and it's fine. The camera is pretty noisy after a frame has been taken too, like electronic moving if that makes sense? I have now tried 3 lenses indoors and out all modes even full auto and it rarely locks and gives me the red focus indicator. Just the no focus symbols.

Sound faulty or is there something I'm missing?

Are you sure you don't have it in continuous AF (AI-servo I think Canon call it)?
 
Indeed. AI server focus mode gives no visible confirmation that focus has been obtained. Check that first.
 
It's one shot mode. The more I have played with it the more i think it's dodgy contacts on the camera side. Every lens does it and every lens is fine on my other body. Looking through the view finder 9/10 times you get the flashing Dot above the triangles which according to the manual is unable to get focus. The body is also making strange noises when I release the shutter button from half pressed. On occasion though on refitting the lens it works fine and the noise isn't there either. Kind of an electrical capacitor type high pitch squeal. I think I am going to get it swapped out for peace of mind.

One shot mode is not the focus mode, that's the drive mode. However, what your describing doesn't sound right, I've never had a camera make a high pitch squeal :eek:

"One shot" is a focus mode.....it's either"one shot AF" or "continuous AF". The drive modes are "single shooting" or "continuous shooting".

Apologies, different nomenclature in Canon then.
