I am going to a comedy gig tomorrow night and am going to take a camera along, obviously light levels are going to be pretty low so does anyone have any recommendations?

Something b&w maybe HP5 pushed? I'm not sure. Is it better to push a traditional b&w film or something like XP2?

Much more pleasing grain than HP5 in my opinion.
 
Hi, I've always shot "Tri X" for this sort of thing.

As the last post said it's a much better grain structure than HP5 for this sort of work and it will also stand push processing better.

It was the standard film of virtually every tog back in my press days.:)
 
I'll be slightly different and recommend T-Max 400, you can easily expose it at 800 with normal processing (assuming a speed enhanching developer lik XTOL, Microphen etc, but even with a normal dev mine seemed fine for the few frames I exposed at 800) or push it to 1600 with much reduced grain compared to most films
 
T-Max is much better for pushing than Tri-X. Tri-X gives a very characteristic low light look, but it's pretty gritty and sometimes doesn't suit the subject at all.

In most developers, T-Max 400 doesn't even need any adjustment in development for ISO800.
 
I personally really like Ilford Delta 3200 for these sorts of occasions, especially in medium format.

I usually shoot it at 1600, but will shoot at 3200 or faster if the light requires such.

If I don't have access to Delta 3200, then I would go for Tri-X. That said, I don't often push it past 800, because of the availability of the 3200 Ilford film. I've done 1200 or 1600 once or twice with Tri-X though with acceptable results.
 
I have been happy with Tri X at 800 ASA and although I really like HP5 (I know this isn't everyones cup of tea) I always keep that at 400ASA. Oops! ASA I guess I am showing my age!
 
Thanks guys, i've gone with some Tri-X which I'll push depending on the light levels when I get there.

It's a comedy gig and the comedian has a fairly dark persona so I'm hoping the gritty contrast will work quite well.

I'm taking my trusty 55mm f1.2 so focussing will be a challenge :lol:

This, it'll be way too dark for a 400 film. I like Delta, got a nice old school vibe going on and grain isn't intrusive even in 35mm.
