So your shooting football in the pouring rain.. you have a 2 camera setup with a 400 and a 70-200 (or whatever)

I have a thinktank cover for the 400.. cost loads and had to get the eyepiece.. does a wonderful job but i dont use the sleeves.. i keep it loose underneath so i can quickly shove my hands in..

Its all about getting from one camera to the other quickly.. trying to get hands in sleeves is too slow..

So can work around the thinktank on the 400

I need a good raincover that also covers the body for the 70-200 but thats open underneat for quick access

I ahve a cover i can use.. but last night it was 2 hrs of none stop rain and the body couldnt help but get wet... I want to avoid long periods of water hiting the body

whats the reccomendations and have you used in same situation.. please dont tell me about your platic bag and lacky band :)

hmm I have one simmilar.. the camomac (in black) but doesnt tie pull at end... that lookes like it could work but the shooting shutter seems odd... still wouldnt mine one that attaches to an eyepiece and all covered at end... anyone?

gonna keep that bookmarked and worth a punt for a tenner or so if nothing else found...THANKS :)

yep they are open at the bottom.

if you want to try before you buy PM me your address & I'll pop my one in the post tomorrow. For a 1D3 and 70-200 so will be good for the 1d4 and 70-200.

Will pop it on now and try and take some photos. Give me 1/2 an hour.

Excuse quality of the photos but here they are.

The hole in the bottom is velcro'd. When you put you hand through you are on the zoom ring.

There is plenty of room between the back of the camera and the end of the cover.

However as you put you head to the camera you bunch up the cover, so if in heavy rain I would worry about getting rain on the back of the camera.

Best to go in the shower with it I reckon :D

I have one of their C80 covers for my 300 Tony. look a right prat sat at the side of the cricket pitch with a camo cover on the camera and lens but it works. Most of the bottom is velcro for sticking the foot of the lens collar through but can be used open no problem. Your welcome to pop down and have a look see what you think.

Robin ..THANKS :) . what about when using the camera.. shooting.. the body will get wet in pouriung rain will it not? I am talking 2 hrs constant not stop rainign and keep switching between camera bodies... does the body stay dry? what about when not using then switc to using?

Do you have one of them on a tripod?

Do you have one of them on a tripod?

the 400 is on a monopod and i am OK with that.. stays dry no problem using the thinktank cover..

the 70-200 hangs around my neck and rests on my kneee while i sit..when the action gets close i prop the 400 against me and grab the 70-200

problem is.. keeping it dry while not using it..but having quick easy access to the zoom and contrals in an instance...

I have the Giffgear, it has a window at the rear so the only 'open' areas are for the front of the lens and the opening below where your hand goes.

Might put some pics up tomorrow

Excuse the pics, daughter helping out

You can adjust the zoom through the material fabric so no need to have two hands up inside the glove.

Shown here with a 70 - 200 but it's really for a 300mm f2.8

Tony.

Because the back is not sealed as such I reckon it will get wet in the kind of rain you are talking about.

As I see it, you're swapping bodies quickly and put the 70-200 down without wasting too much time trying to make sure it the back is covered properly.

Because the back will have been bunched up there is the possibility that if you put in down slightly facing forward of rain getting to the camera.

Secondly to get you hands in through the velco slit in a hurry IMO will not be easy.

I may be unduly pessimistic here but I'm trying to envisage your real life shooting conditions.

I hardly use it, so why not borrow it for a few weeks, then come on here and give an honest write up. I'm sure it will rain ooop north in that time. If not keep it longer. I'm off at the end of March on holiday for 2 weeks (first time in 5 years), so keep as long as needed to asses properly.

Honestly no probs on my part. You give much help on here freely so why not take something back.

I'll pay postage to you and you ay it back. Seems fair to me

Yes the pic I've shown are with the 70-200 but it fits the 300mm. There is an adjustable velcro strap that tightens around the lens hood

Sorry meant to say - that giffgear look better to me.

cheers for the offer robin but the body would get wet as its not unsimilar to the camomac i ahve now....appreciate the offer :)

it needs a sealed body end but easy accesibility and the griffgear looks good.. just emails them about compat with mkIV and eyepiece

Yep I reckon the giffgear looks far better for your conditions.

That's my MKIV in the pics, MKIII eyepiece fits

Why buy pro stuff if you are worried about rain?

My 70-200mm and Mk111 has been fine in torrid weather at circuits.

My 70-200mm and mk111 is fine in pouring rain............

.........so what are you asking about?

you have lost me mate.. its very very clear what i am asking about...or am i missing something obvious?

Why buy pro stuff if you are worried about rain?

are you suggesting i buy pro gear just for the rain?

sorry but when i am sat in the pouring rain with 17k of gear and its pouring down for 2 hrs i think i will cover it up.... i have a shock proof watch.. but i dont go round hitting it with a lump hammer :)

Indeed I am, if it's a shock-proof watch .......

...bring on a JCB!

Imagine buying two Mk1V's and being worried about the rain.....

....just get out there with a brownie and save yourself a load of dosh!

My answer should have given you a wee clue!

i go to a heck of a lot of sporting events in the winter outdoors.. everyone covers there gear when it pours down.. from proper covers to towels.. they all use soemhting.... whats all that about?

i do know they are weather sealed..but call me mister paranoid softy if you like.., i am not prepared to sit there hr after hr with rain pouring down on it all because its weather sealed.. i prefer to cover it up.. peice of mind if you like :)

I use the Kata E702, when I'm at events in the rain. My D700 and 70-200f2.8 Lens fit just right, and I leave the bottom open so that it does not steam up with the warmth of my hands.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but AquaTech Sport Shields. There the tits and there eye pieces are just amazing

ive always used the stormjackets with sucess, the non-pro on the 70-200 and the PRO on the 120-300 which has the velcro opening on the underside for tripod/monopod. as above theyre thin enough to feel through.

bit pricey though, im sure cheaper alternatives are pretty much the same difference.

the PRO on the 120-300 with monopod:
