Hi there

So far, I have the stock lens (18-55mm) and a Sigma 10-20mm but I'm looking for either a prime or zoom lens around 35-50mm for my Nikon D50 but it has to be fast (under f3). I would like to use it for street photography/portraits in low light conditions without using a flash.

Which lens could you recommend?

The obvious answer is the 50mm f/1.8- Incredibly cheap, light, fast and sharp. Other than that, you have the 50mm f/1.4, which, depending on budget could be worth spending the extra over the f/1.8 and the Sigma 30mm f/1.4.

^I agree

thats a 18-70 f3.5-5.6 though i think...

Thanks, but I don't think I want a lens with inconsistent lowest f (if that makes any sense). I absolutely need constant wide aperture throughout.

There is the 18-55mm f/2.8. Whats your budget?

As it was payday, I'm flexible :) But I was thinking about £100. So the Nikon 50mm f1.8 would fit in perfect, I guess - I will read up on it!

Is there anything from Sigma which is good? EDIT: Didn't see the recommendation for the 30mm f1.4!

Ahh well I wouldnt think £100 would get you a zoom with a constant 2.8 unless you got really lucky on ebay.
The 50mm 1.8 is a class lens, I recommend you get that for now.

Yeah, I think I'm going to settle for that one! Seems very reasonable priced and the feedback and reviews have been great throughout. Also, it really would be 70mm after all on my D50 which I don't mind that much.

Thanks a lot for your help! Will be a nice Christmas present :)

i just recently sold a sigma 26-50 F2.8 for £150, if you have a budget around that have a look for one, for what it is its a fantastic lens, i only sold mine to get a Nikon 17-55 lol
