I'm going to farne islands this thursday, i was wondering what lenses i should take, can someone give me insight of past visits please.

The lenses i have are.........
canon 500mm L
sigma 120-400mm
canon 24-105mm L

Thanks sam.

Don't forget head protection, they dive bomb the boats.

Most of the walkways are roped off, so close access to the wildlife is impossible. I took my 55-250 and wished I had taken my 150-500. So, if I were you, I would take the 500.

The 24-105 would be very good for approach shots of the coastline and lighthouse.

agreed, take the 500mm and maybe 24-105mm, just in case you get close enough

Going in 2-3 weeks I hope - having done it before I'd suggest 24-105 and 120-400. When the Arctic Terns start dive bombing you you might find the birds come within the close focussing range of the 500. The flexibility of the 120-400 will be ideal.

Take flashgun too.

Another slow news day in the Daily Fail....

I've got images like that from previous years.

I went and loved the terns "dive bombing" me. Highlight of my trip I think. For "protective headgear" all you need is a baseball cap or any hat. Just wear it so there is a slight gap above the top of your bonce. There is a slight risk the terns may crap on you but I didnt see anyone get that when I was there. Its worth it for the experience anyway. (All this is assuming you actually land on the islands and walk round)
If you do walk round some of the birds are extremely close, Arctic terns, Shags and Puffins. But there is a possibility of fences/ropes being in shot.
Reckon a 70-200/300 would get a lot of use with a 400/500 if you had one for environmental shots where you dont want the man made gubbins(fences/ropes etc) appearing in shot.
I'm envious anyway, enjoy the trip!

Thanks for all the advice, i ended up taking the 400mm, did not need the 500 as everything was so close.
