Anyone been, I going there as part of a group in June. Any hints. It`s a six/seven hour drive from here, I thought about trains but they don`t run on a sunday!:lol:


Photographic-wise, what do you recommend?
 
From Wikipedia it looks like bird togging is a must, with plenty of landscapey stuff too.
 
I absolutely love the Farnes, and go at least twice a year. It is so busy with birds in the summer months.

I would recommend:
A hat to protect your head from the terns.
loads of memory cards (as you'll need them!).
Doing the 2 Island tour, as you get loads of time to phptgraph the birds.

You need a back up plan too as the trips are sometimes canceled due to rough seas.
Have a look at the Seahouses website. It might be also be worth booking your trip in advance. I'll try to find out who our club uses as they've had a couple of trips canceled and re-scheduled.

If the boat trip is off, you'll be spoiled for choice with the castles on the coast. Dunstanburgh is just down the way at Craster.

Thanks for all the pointers! A few of the group have been already, but this is my first visit. Got the hotel booked, and they`ve got the boat arranged.
 
Defo take some sort of head protection :eek: if you do the landing (which costs extra as it's NT land)

I won a local comp a few years back with a shot of a Tern that was attacking me, it filled the frame and was shot on a 12mm lens !!!

Yep 12mm and the b****r was still a bit too close to get its wingtips in

Always makes me chuckle when you see guys getting off the boat with their 3ft+ long lenses, as chances are many of the birds they want to shoot are just too damned close to focus on :lol:
