Michael Schumacher retired from F1 today, a marvelous display today underlined his skill. Whatever your feelings about some of his past exploits(and lord knows i still havent forgiven him for Adelaide)he has been the best driver of the last decade. Its a shame we wont see him in F1 anymore...nice comment from kimi though before the race, brundle asked him what he thought about the presentation for schuey, to which he replied 'i dunno, i was having a ****' quality:D

schumi got him back in the race though, that was a really top quality overtaking manouver! good to see him bowing out at the top of his game though,

ill mostly miss schumacher and montoya going wheel to wheel with absolutely no respect for each other as drivers (apart from safety)

and in a style to be proud of. Deserving of bein the 8th time world champ but you cant have everything. Glad he went out there and people showed their respects for him on the track. Enjoy your life now Michael..

hurrah for Kimi saying "he was taking a ****"

Im was more upset to see Monty go than that German bloke.... I really really dislike Schuey, he drove to win no question about it, and he was fast thinking, but his blatant disregard for the rules and safety of others is totally unforgivable... and consistantly getting away lightly or totally with infractions just went to show how biased the sport had become. Also, the ITV commentators seem so far up his bum it sickens me, Ted Kravitz commentary is laughable, slipping in praise for Schuey at every available oppertunity.

Im quite shocked Alonso was allowed to finish the race, I fully expected him to be taken out of the race is a careless accident by either Schuey himself or Massa or even a Ferrari based team like Redbull.... That said DC respected but disliked Schuey with a passion so he wouldnt have helped, from the DC fanclub meetings ive attended and various interviews DC has made his views very clear.

:agree:

The man was a brilliant driver but will never and should never be remembered as one of the greats because his on track tactics were, at times, a disgrace to the sport. Harsh but I'm afraid, the truth.

Not a big fan personally, but no denying his skill and success

he's just that biut more determined than any driver ever has been, for that I respect his vigour. I also think the FIA are a bunch of pansies and as soon as one driver - usually schumacher in recent years - starts getting much faster than everyone else those fast drivers always get handed some penatly. the rule book must run like a list of "you must not do this" rather than a "can do"...bit pants that. so, end of a dramatic and successful career no doubt, credit where it's due.

True enough - the guy has bowed out after putting in one of the finest drives of his career, IMHO. And who knows what might have happened had he not had that blowout early in the race and been in a position to put Alonso under pressure?

I mean, yeah, he broke the rules, but there again, we also say that Senna and Prost were among the finest, and the two were on the same team when they used to take each other out... F1 (and Schuey) has cleaned up its act a lot since those days...

Oh yeah, who was the driver that deliberately went full tilt through the last corner at Magny-Coeurs a few years ago on his final qualifying hot lap so he could get pole? Villeneuve's name springs to mind... That was hardly sporting conduct either...

Top response from Brundle too - "Well that'll make the car a bit lighter then"

Yes he was a good driver. Perhaps too good.

Putting his aside his slightly arrogant on tack antics. He dominated F1 to such a degree it became boring to watch, unless you were German or Italian of course. It became such a rarity to see actual wheel to wheel racing. The Senna, Prost, Mansell days were definitely the best time F1 had.

next year will be an interesting year, Massa could be very good, kimi with him, Alonso might bot be good, Button might be very good...the renaults might find out how quick alonso really is....should be a good one!

Yup, for the first time in a few years there is reason to look forwards to next years racing, ive already got my tickets paid for for Silverstone might try and get to another one as well... not sure which... Spa is an awesome race but doesnt look the best spectactor track..

I don't remember the actual race or where it was at but didn't Senna do something similar where the finish line was just around the last bend. Senna put his car into the wall and it had to be repaired for the race.

Michael Schumacher, he has been the best driver of the last decade.

I disagree, The car has been the best car for the last decade maybe.
In this formula, you can't tell who is the best driver, as all the cars are different.
Take the driver from a poor car and put him in the ferrari, and straight away
he is leading and winning races.
So is Massa the new greatest driver?
I don't think so.

I'm glad to see the back of him, I don't like cheats.

It was in France at the Magny-Cours track in 1991. They moved the start/finish line further down the track to stop drivers doing it after that year.

Not strictly true, although a factor. Do you remember the all-star kart racing a few years back. Schuey was scarey good!

My opinion is that his germanic character wins very few fans outside his land (ferrari fans love him because he puts their car on the podium) and he has bent every rule on and off the track but to say the car was responsible for his success is a gross oversimplification.

Alonso has verve and determination that has elevated his position way beyond what the car provided. Although I cannot deny they have a good package.

Finally, if it's wheel to wheel and bumper to bumper racing you all crave try touring cars:)

The Car and Team plays a HUGE part in the package, looks at Massas` performance in the Sauber... he was unpredictable, inconsistant and dangerous (nearly as bad as Sato)... now he is in the Ferrari he is in a position to be able to win races. He actually had couching and help from the Ferrari team whilst he was still with Sauber, preparing him to join them, the Ferrari team is undoubtedly the pinnicle of motorsport.

massa is still unpredictable, this year he has been patchy..

Yeap, now I have to decide who to support next year.

Kimi's comment was hilarious. But he's so dull! It wouldn't be very entertaining if he starts winning races next year and gets more interview time. Though I am looking forward to see his driving in a Ferrari.

Alonso is so up his own arse - being suspicious that Renault is sabotaging his chances to win the championship just because he is leaving to McLaren next year.

:agree:
Yeah he drove a great race  Lets hope we have a home hero to cheer on next year
