Well, I do, and I would love to spend a sunday afternoon with my girlfriend in a nice pub having a quiet meal and a couple of sherberts, but, once again, I am working the sunday shift!!!

Which means that I have to now shower and change and go to work.

And I work in the pub :( So I get to spend my afternoon serving you all pints of whatever, listening to you moan about the price of a pint, followed by petrol, smiling at you when you say neither "please" or "thankyou", and generaly be all cheery toward you!

When In fact, I just want a sunday off :(

Now I don't think I know anyone on here personally, so this should not have any bearing on my tips this afternoon......

Please, Tip the barstaff, theyre giving up the weekend so that you can enjoy yours, I know you don't have to, theyre being paid to serve you, but they arent being paid to talk to you, smile at you, have a joke with you, or lie to the missus when she nearly catches you on the fruity ;) .

Its not a beg for money, its a plea for appreciation.

I would love a pint.. but like you im working today... my shift started at midnight on saturday and it finished on monday at 9am :( ie already had to cycle to the data centre to restart 2 servers, the b****r was that after the first one i got home and then sat down for 15 minutes and the next one went offline... bloody customers.

I appreciate that, but its what i deal with every day, people who think they know my job better than I do, whe in actual fact, they dont know the difference between red wine and rose, or real ale from chemical brew. Its not everyone, but its the majority, people arent customers anymore, theyre consumers, and the ask for things like theyre at mcdonalds, complain that the sunday roasts beef is undercooked, when its cooked to perfection. Talk to me like im stupid because I'm 21. I love my job, i do, i enjoy it when nice people come in, and I can be nice back, and I'm happy when people have enjoyed their afternoon out, but the other side of the coin I hate, makes me wonder why I bother.
 
I'll take your girlfriend out for a nice quiet pub lunch if you like lol
 
what pub do you work at? I'm in the catering trade (head chef) and i swear, you hear some of the most stupid excuses for people not to have to pay for there food, last one was a pie, the customers had eaten it yet they complained that the meat was tough and they couldn't cut it, i got a piece of the same pie and i swear i could cut through the meat with a spoon it was that tender :D

Dude, I have learnt that people love complaining, I had one bloke a few weeks back, complaining that his steak was crap. Now I know that our steaks are good because of the number of compliments we get, the return trade, and the plain and simple fact that I have one a week. Anyway, he complained, every reason in the book, the boss eventually gave in and gave him a free round. I then found out the day later, this guy was a butcher who'd been touting for business but we naffed him off!!!

how bout the dude who complained that his apple pie had a hair on it, which, in all fairness, looked like a hair from his daft goatee, threatened to "smash dis plate ova ya head innit", because I refused to refund him, then turned into a pussycat when the landlord came down and he found out that the business is private and not managed!!!

We have people who complain that the veg is too hard, then the veg is too soft, the mash is too coarse, the mash tastes like its smash.

It goes on. People love complaining if they think theyre going to get something out of it, never mind the difficulty theyre causing staff, and the potential damage to the business.

You're lucky in the kitchen, to a point, us FOH staff are stuck in the middle when it comes to food complaints, we know the food is good, and the customers are trying it on, but we also have to pacify the customer and talk to you guys about it, and i know your job aint easy.
Hard work it is!. and as much as it winds me up, I love it!
 
i worked as a barman for 7 years lol i had enough of it lol and i had stopped being friendly to customers so i figured i had burnt out
 
i have to say, i have only really complained once. ordered a medium fillet steak from a large restaurant chain. it came well done, now normally im with a big group and rather than make a fuss i make do, but this time i sent it back saying i asked for medium. The chef in all his wisdom decided to put it back ont eh grill for a couple of minutes:shrug:. when it came out more cooked, (getting slightly annoyed that the chef cant figure out what overcooked meant) i sent it back again explaining to the waitress that it was overcooked, now he has cooked it more so it is even worse. she disapeared and 10 minutes later, i get a medium steak which was very lovely(possibly been spat on etc but oh well). she then came over and told me it was free, i was well chuffed but would have happily paid for it.

i have to say i usually use please and thank you or cheers, and normally leave some change for a tip(unless the place is stupidly expensive)
