Hi Guys,

I am soon off on a family holiday to Alcudia, Spain.

I can't make my mind up. Do I take my 5DMKII and 24-105 Lens or my Small Compact?

Will the 5D end up being a pain to take out and a worry if I leave it in the hotel room??

Anyone had similar situation?

Thanks

I would take the 5D for some proper photography 'cause you may find you can get an hour to yourself for a nice sunset and then take the compact just for daily trips to theme parks or whatever where you won't want to take a DSLR :)

take both

Thanks Guys.

I was bit worried about leaving the camera in the Hotel room?

Most hotels i have been in have a safe. Mind you, my 5d mk2 goes everywhere with me. I wouldn't leave it in the hotel room at all to be honest

I would take both but this has not been possible for me as my hand luggage allowance was taken up with toddler paraphernalia and I would not want to check my dslr in.

So I left the toddlers behind and took the camera :) /joking!

I'll be taking my 5D2 24-105 and 17-40 to Malta with me in September, having said that I have no interest in beaches and don't go anywhere without my camera.
In the evenings I hide the camera and lenses in my clothes but leave the bag in full view. Most thefts are snatch and run, the bag ain't worth much so I don't let that worry me.

I usually take both, I've never thought twice about leaving stuff in hotel rooms.

I'd take both...a compact for family snaps and the 5D if a chance of doing some photography arises. I leave stuff in hotel rooms all the time and use the safe if things will fit.

I take both. Most hotel rooms have a safe, but I just left the camera bag in the room when I was dining.

I usually take both... and the compact doesn't end up being used much, if at all. The only times I've taken just the compact, I've wished I had the DSLR there too!

Question is... which lens(es), tripod aswell, filters etc etc

I was just going to take a small bag with Body and 24-105 lens. Maybe a polarising filter. No tripod too big.

I just heard stories about rooms being robbed and camera snatched etc!!

Thanks for all the comments everyone.

I take my 40D with tamron 18-270 and take of the lens and put it in the the safe, I sometimes wish I had a suitable tripod to take:

I would take both,I have left stuff in my hotel room, with no problem, also seem a shame to have such a nice camera, and leave it at home :)

Thanks.

I guess I will take both then. Pretty sure the Hotel will have a safe.

Only problem is 5D has no flash and dont want to carry my Speedlite around.
So it will only be used during daylight I think.

you'll regret not taking it if you don't, especially when you see other people machine gunning their way through the streets :bonk:

as for a tripod... you'll always find a wall to sit it on to get those lovely shots of the town at night.

Take both and carry it with you dont leave in the hotel safe.

Cheers Guys.
Now back from a great trip and definately glad I took both the DSLR and the compact :)

All advice was greatly appreciated.
