Nearly got caught out by spoof paypal. Looked genuine enough apart from the heading which raised the alarm. It had my first and last name and the rest looked like a direct lift from the proper paypay people

It came as paypal[paypal@e.paypal.co.uk] . It said my paypay due yesterday didn't go through and wanted another credit card number instead.

DEFINATELY ALARM BELLS STARTED RINGING.

So my advise is go into the genuine paypal account and double check about payments due/made/pending etc.

I did on mine and the next payment due out is a couple of days time and no payment was to have been made on the spoof paypal day

Beware of anything asking for credit/debit cards/bank details and double check first

I too received a genuine looking email a few weeks back, apart from the obvious issue with the email address that looked odd. It reported my account had been suspended.

I forwarded the message onto spoof@paypal.com where they investigate them.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER click on a link on an email claiming that you need to log in and do x y z.

genuine emails from banks etc will NEVER have a link to their page.

This. Banks etc will NEVER ask you to do this. And as said too, forward a copy to PayPal.

Agree 100%.

Scams are all over, whether selling on Ebay, Amazon, Gumtree, or any other you can think of.

Some are obvious, some not so. Nearly been caught by a few myself and I read everything.

There is one thing for certain though, some people, some where are making a lot of money!

Any one got the EBAY LOGGING IN FAIL yet?

You go to sign in screen pops up saying you account is suspended due to this or that and to confirm your details inc your creditcard details. I called ebay and told them and all they said is yes we are aware of the scam.:|

Why dont they warm users then???

that sounds more like malware than scam?

it is common sense though and these scams change almost daily. its hard for anyone to keep track, otherwise theyd all be shutdown by now.

When you receive a spam PayPal email it always has an attachment and PayPal never send attachments on their emails...just a little tip :)

The easy way to identify a genuine email from PayPal is that they will always start the email with your name,ie Dear Chris.... They don't use sir/madam etc

That and they will never ever put a direct link to a login page.

Mine didn't have any attachment, simply wanted you to follow the link.
works for most spam though

The first time I got a spam email from PayPal I hadn't been using PayPal long and it looked so genuine I forwarded it to PayPal and asked if they had sent it to me!

I believe Paypal will enbed your name in the subject line and email contents

Even though, i still type in myself to go to their website
